Delta recently announced the Roma Imperiale, an oversize fountain pen that measures 6.75 inches long and .75 inches in diameter. To put that into perspective the Montblanc 149 is 5.875 inches long and .59 inches in diameter! It’s hand turned from a solid bar of material, just like all Delta pens, but this one is made from a special antioxidant ebonite that, according to Bryant at Pentime, is supposed to prevent fading. Other features include a piston filling mechanism, an extra large ebonite feed, and a #8 sized (read: big) 14 carat solid gold nib at an MSRP of $995.
I’ve been impressed with Delta’s pens ever since I bought the Turchese Meraviglia Stantuffo from Bryant two years ago and I’m equally impressed by the looks of this pen. The material is beautiful and I love the classic cigar shaped design. Officially, nib sizes are F,M, and B but I’ve heard if you ask nicely you might be able to get a stub. It should be posted sometime today at Pentime where you can get more details.
Be sure to check out the video at the end of this post to see it in action.
