The Goulet Pen Company never ceases to amaze me. First, their customer service is top notch. The only other place that compared is now out of business. Then, the ability to order ink samples is certainly a customer favorite. Speaking of inks, they recently announced the Swab Shop, possibly the easiest way to compare individual inks, a brand of inks, or a family of inks on the internet. After seeing the Swab Shop I didn’t think there was any way to improve. Boy was I wrong.

Welcome to the Nib Nook.

The Nib Nook allows you to compare up to four writing samples so you can see exactly how a pen writes. At the moment they have over 30 pens cataloged. Only 30 you say? Yeah, that’s every nib of those 30 pens! Brian said they’ve spent months getting this ready and I’m sure he’s not exaggerating.

Brian writes each sample with Noodler’s Black on 80g white Rhodia dotPad paper. He also includes a disclaimer:

Disclaimer: We’re still working to add more, stay tuned! Your results may vary with various combinations of ink, paper, and writing position. These writing samples are representative, and standardized upon Noodler’s Black ink on 80g white Rhodia dotPad paper, all written and edited by Brian Goulet.

Now, go have some fun.

  1. Walter W. says:

The only thing missing on both (swabs and nips previews) is a direct link to the item (pen or ink) to facilitate purchase.

You're so right. I didn't even think about that.

    • I agree, we would LOVE to do links to the pages for the corresponding pens. I am having trouble getting the dynamic code to work properly, and I may have to put this project on hold for a few weeks with the baby arriving soon, but it's definitely on my "to do" list for 2012! I WILL figure it out, gosh darn it! :)

The Swab Shop at least does have purchase buttons for the corresponding samples and bottles.

      • Hi Rachel!

I know you'll get that dynamic code to cooperate eventually. For now, however, we're all happy to click on Writing Instruments and hover on down to the pen we fancy. You needn't worry about anything but the baby at this point. In fact, take the rest of the week off. If Brian needs anything, he can call us =)
