The TWSBI Diamond 540 fountain pen is now available to order from Amazon or eBay in three new colors: Amber, Sapphire, and Smoke. There’s been a slight price bump to $60 which does include free shipping. Also, new nib sizes are available: a 1.1mm and a 1.5mm stub for only $24. It doesn’t appear that you can order a pen with a stub. It looks like they must be purchased separately. Still, not a bad price.

I was also set to pull the trigger on a smoke until I saw the amber, as well. I'll be honest and admit that I'm not all that functional first thing in the morning, and this was the first thing I saw when I opened Google Reader, pre-coffee mind you. Luckily, this exercise did not require any thought at all, my hand somehow immediately gravitated to the amber with B nib and hit "buy now". Sad but true. It's a great color. I am sincerely looking forward to its arrival. I think this is going to be a really fun pen.

The pen with stub 1.1 or 1.5 will be available on clear 540, but not the colored version, otherwise there will be too many sku.

Question: Amazon lists the new 1.1mm and 1.5mm nibs as "stubs." Goulet Pens has them listed as "italics."
Would you say they are stubs (no sharp edges, good for cursive writing) or italics (sharp or semi-sharp edges, good for calligraphy)?

It seems unusual for a manufacturer to compete with their dealers. In fact, Goulet doesn't even have the pens or nibs in stock.
Anyway, I own two TWSBI and an extra nib. Planning on buying a 700, another 540, and a stub/italic nib.
However, will continue to buy from Goulet and pay the shipping….

Thanks, we really appreciate it!! Our shipment of 540's and italic nibs left yesterday, so we'll have it on Friday (CA to VA takes a while!). Yes, agree, it is a little odd to compete with the distributor/manufacturer, but at least the prices are fair across the board. We're happy just to be able to offer TWSBI at all. And yes, we do charge shipping, but the pen costs a little less so it should be fairly comparable.
Does anyone know if the stub nibs have some tipping material? I think I read somewhere that they would not and I can't find a decent photo of the nib to make that determination myself.

I don't "see" any obvious iridium, but it's difficult to believe that the nib is just steel at the tip. I've sent an email to TWSBI asking for a definitive answer. I'll report back here as soon as I know something.
Philip Wang, President of TWSBI USA, has responded to my email and says "the stub nibs are standard Bock stub nibs and have no tipping (no iridium)."
I (as in me, Eric, no longer quoting Philip) can add that I've had a 1.1mm TWSBI/Bock stub in my 540 Amber for two days. It's lovely. No tipping required.
