    Hi Guys,

Terrific interview…again. Brian is an inspiration and having the video is a great addition. Getting to see Eric was an extra treat.

    • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

      Hi writingrav!

I'm glad you liked the video format. All Brian's idea =)

  • Mike

    Blue Ghost.

  • FPK

Really nice interview! I really changed my opinion on the pricing of his pens now that I get such an insight into the whole process. A nice bulb filling pearlette is at the top of my list right now…… I loved the video format too–so much more personal! I did not bother to spend an hour of my time viewing the WHOLE thing before, but now I'm hooked! Thanks!

    • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

      Hi FPK!

Thanks for the feedback regarding the video format. I'll try doing more video interviews whenever possible.

  • Patrick Clifford

Splendid interview – the man is a real artist and his passion tells in his pens. Thanks for this treat.

    • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

      Hi Patrick!

Here, here. Much to his embarrassment, I've been calling him an artist for years. I'm glad the cat's finally out of the bag =)

  • Youstruckgold

Great interview – what a clever and likeable guy! (Brian) PS. I have a Brockton (the original Piston) – which I'm not selling: but now i'm saving for the new Piston – this guy is amazing!!! Well done!

    • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

      Quote: "(Brian)"

Thanks for the clarification. I almost let that compliment go to my head =) =)

  • Youstruckgold

PS. And I'm hearing all this from Australia – god bless the internet!

  • https://plus.google.com/113281675223657146847/posts Lireoec

Really? I am watching this from Sydney, Australia! Brian is an amazing innovator and artist. His designs are very cool indeed and if you consider the personal and dedicated customer service he offers and the craftsmanship involved in the production of every single pen from this wonderful company, the pricing is absolutely reasonable!

I am the incredibly satisfied owner of a Edison Nouveau Premiere Cherry Cordial and I plan on ordering a Pearlette as a birthday present to myself, I am thinking of getting a custom actually. Should be very exciting! Thanks Eric for another expertly produced and structured interview, I've been tuning in since the first interview but this is my first post here. But, I'll definitely be making more posts here and I'll send you an email soon Eric. ^_^

    • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

      Hi Lireoec!

Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to your email.

Two commenters from Australia in the same day. Cool. I love Australia. You're nearly always a day ahead of me =)

  • Gordon Tillman

Eric I really enjoyed this interview with Brian Gray. Thanks for posting it.

    • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

      Hiya Gordon,

Nice to "see" you =) I'm glad you enjoyed the interview. Brian's great to talk to and it really shows thanks to the video.

Say 'ello to the Mrs for me!

  • David

    Dear FPGeeks…

Firstly I do enjoy the podcast..
Secondly I have no professionanal/trade association with Montblanc!!

but I do get annoyed when someone (Brian Grey) intimates that a company like Montblanc can't produce large volumes without something like injection molding!!!

    • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

      Hi David,

I believe that both Brian and I went out of our way to specifically state we were *not* intimating that Montblanc uses injection molding. I simply asked Brian to theorize with me about how a company might mass produce fountain pens. Injection molding is certainly an option.

Specific to my question about how Montblanc may have produced 10,000 to 20,000 Ernest Hemingway pens, Brian's hypothesis begins at 0:49:22 where he provides the example of having a dozen high production scale CNC lathes, each producing 60 to 70 pens per day. At a 720 pen per day production level, 20,000 pens could be produced in about a month. No injection molding required.

      • David

        Hi Eric

I did get the disclaimer on further listening and was deleting the comment but inadventantly posted in error (a potential hazard of typing on mobiles!)

my apologies for any intended slur upon you & Brian and would like to state that I really enjoy the podcast & your & Dan’s genuine enthusiasm!!

  • http://fpgeeks.com Eric Schneider

    Hi David,

Thanks for the follow-up. You've eased my mind about any ambiguity in the interview.

I'm glad you're enjoying the podcast and our difficult to contain Fountain Pen Geekiness. Oh – enthusiasm =)

  • David

    Hi Eric

glad I’ve set your mind to rest!!

I think my ‘Grail Pen’ would be one of the Namiki Chinkin series as I adore Japanese lacquerwork!!!

I’ve posted a link to a YouTube video thoughI’m sure listeners are familiar but it does show the exquisite creaftsmanship involved (no injection molding! LOL

    Keep up the good work

  • http://www.edisonpen.com Brian Gray

Wow! Thanks for the nice comments, everyone!

I hope that Eric and I can do another sometime when there’s more to discuss, but I think that we covered it all with this one!

    Thanks for watching!

Another really interesting interview – thanks to Brian, and to FP Geeks for the time. Really enjoyed the insight into the process (and machining vs turning), and hearing Brian’s passion for what he does.

  • Tamara

Great interview! I love my Edison and now that I know Brian is so fond of Bexleys, I’m looking at those too…but not for a while. Must stop buying pens for at least a month ;)
