Mr. Smith opens his pen case for Fountain Pen Geeks and I can only ask myself, “With a friend like Dan, who needs pen shows?”

I don’t believe I’ve ever caught Dan without at least some pens on his person. Today he’s using the Aston 20 Pen Case (into which he has managed to place 24 pens), which opens to reveal not only his stash, but a velvet pen protecting flap and the requisite FPGeeks Crown emblazoned business card.

This website has gone to the birds. ;)

Very clever, HK! You are awarded one Geek Crown =)

  • Minislot

Yep, I thought they only made Peli’ White Tortoises in M’s that were all factors of 2400.

Thanks for the insider glimpses yet again…

  • Gerald Taylor

It’s never as big as you let on.

  • Neels Kriek

I believe that pen you’re pulling a shell game on us

  • http://monkeyphotomcr.blogspot.com John the Monkey

Ah, that Burgundy VP and the Vac are gorgeous. A man of good taste, indeed!

  • Jason

    10 or 6 hmmmm……..

  • Explodingtofu

Awesome collection, thanks for sharing. I thought that I didn’t NEED a Delta Dolcevita Turchese… Aparently I was way wrong.

Side note: that one pen looks like its the same size as my (13th letter 60×10)

You guys are the best, thanks for all the infotainment!

  • Lince

Yea the turtle over the snow cap mountain.

  • Maja

Admiral Sheaffer was a Valiant Statesman ;)

    • http://fpgeeks.com/ Dan Smith

Wow, I can’t believe you got that. Impressive. The Snorks weren’t the ones Eric intended to mis-identify. That was my fault. Sorry.

      • Maja

Thanks Dan and “Stiggy”! (by the way, when are you going to update your blog, Ryan? ;) )

    • David

      @Maja…

Unless we know more about the nibs (other than that they are snorkels) on the two right-most blue Shaeffer’s pens, AFAIK they cannot be identified beyond the following:

The second pen from the right (with white dot) is either a snorkel-fill Valiant (conical two-tone gold nib) or Statesman (conical palladium-silver nib).

The right-most pen is either a snorkel-fill special (open palladium-silver nib), Saratoga (open two-tone gold nib), or Admiral (open all gold nib).

David, you are correct. But, Maja has been around here for a while and I’m sure she has seen those two Snorkels that I’ve shown off in more detail before. Either that or she has better information ninjas than we do!

        • Maja

          @Dan—My information ninjas are world-class! :D

@David—I was just trying to create a clever sentence using some Snorkel model names ;) I’ve read the info on those pages many times over the years, but thanks for the links, nonetheless!

  • peterpen53

One of those Pels has been on steroids, right? For 10 days instead of 6?
And like I said before, I’m extremely jealous of that Dolce Vita Turchese.

Good catch, Maja! I saw that, too. :-)

I spy a handful of pens in there that I’ve owned at one point in time. Makes me happy to see a couple of asterisks in front of them, too.

What most of you don’t know, though, is that this truly is only the tip of the iceberg. The pictures don’t show more than 5-10% of Dan’s envy-inducing collection of Vacumatics (including at least one of nearly every size variant, including a rather snazzy silver pearl desk pen and matching stand), or his obnoxiously large collection of Parker 51s.

Also…having written with nearly every one of these pens at one time or another, I can tell you that they’re ALL great writers. My favorites, though? The OS Balance, and the smoke gray M200 (that was the first nib that Dan ever ground, and it’s outstanding).

Just some comments from the local peanut gallery…:-)

    • http://fpgeeks.com/ Dan Smith

Ah, the perks of living in such close proximity. ;-)

  • Ivan

I was wondering why that Pilot looked so big next to it’s neighbor.

  • Tamara

I’d say that’s as good as a pen show :) Nice collection. Glad to see asterisks on some of those.

  • Jay

    Dan, I want your Sheaffers.
