Ian Dixon, our friend ianmedium in fountain pen forums, gave my request for pictures of his Daily Carry Pens a very warm welcome. When the photos arrived, I nearly went blind.

Before reading further, I suggest you cover your eyes…

Ian Dixon Daily Carry Pens small

Left to Right:

  1. Montblanc 149, Medium Nib (1999)
This was a great eBay find. Inked only once then put back in its box in a safe until I purchased it.
  2. Sheaffer Imperial 777, Medium Nib (early 1970′s)
I got this one earlier this year from Peyton Street Pens. This is the pen that started it all for me. My teacher loaned me his when I was 7 and it transformed handwriting for me. When I saw Terri had some NOS in stock, I pounced on it.
  3. Stipula Tuscany Dreams, Flexi Italic 1.1 Nib
This one and the incoming Titanium Flex Nib version are my latest purchases.
  4. Parker Duofold Special, Broad Flexi Stub (1927/28)
I wanted an orange Duofold ever since, as a child, I saw John Boy Walton receive one as a gift from Ike Godsey in an episode of The Waltons!
  5. Retro 51 Twilight Zone Montblanc Alfred Hitchcock LE, Medium Nib (Limited Edition from 2013)
This one was a gift from a client of mine.
  6. Parker 51 Special, Medium Nib (1950′s)
I love 51′s. This one is an eBay bargain. I won it for $23 and it writes like a dream.
  7. Montegrappa Historia, Medium Nib (Limited Edition from 1999)
This one came from John Mottishaw. I sold it to a fellow pen club member then swapped it back for the Nakaya I used to own.

I asked Ian what inks were in each pen and he replied:

I keep them all filled with the same ink and when it comes to change over, I have a lovely couple of hours returning the ink to the bottle and flushing and refilling with new ink. At the moment, the pens are filled with Aurora Black, but the other choices I have are Hitchcock Red, Montblanc Midnight Blue, and Diamine Chocolate Brown.

I swear I saw ‘The Birds’; or maybe it was just a Pelikan.

Hmm, not so much “The Wrong Man”, as “The Wrong…”

  • DET

Given that I was with Eric when he first saw the misidentified pen in person, I am pretty sure I know which one it is.

The pen with swirls is really from a star logo manufacturer

  • RagingDragon

Shouldn’t that be the “Back to the Future” pen? It’s true nature can be found in the fluid list.

  • Howard

Retroactively, it should be mentioned that it is really 4810 folks

The Aztecs were wrong about 2012….

    • RagingDragon

Not necessarily. The Aztec calendar was composed of many nested cycles, and while some see 2012 as the end of the calendar (and predict the end of the world) to others interpret it as the outermost cycle repeats (and predict a time of change and rebirth). Of course, with the Aztecs culture long gone it doesn’t really matter one way or the other whether their calender ends or cycles.

Cool carry, Ian! I missed who they belonged to because I was in the middle of a commercial when they came up. Weird, I didn’t have commercials the other times I watched the podcasts.

    • ianmedium

Hi Melissa. I know, those commercials can be a right pain sometimes! One came up for me right at the point when they were about to announce the winner of the pen!
