Pelikan 2012 MAKI-E UNIQUE COLLECTION AUCTION

For the first time ever, Pelikan is providing a rare opportunity for collectors all over the world to own special one-of-a-kind Maki-e fountain pens. The 2012 Maki-e Unique Collection consists of 15 Maki-e pieces, unique in the world, created just for this event. There will be 12 auctions, one for each fountain pen and one for a set of four books pens. Auctions will start in October with each auction lasting the duration of one week. These Maki-e fountain pens are the only ones produced in their respective design, created by famous Japanese artists.

Pelikan ensures that the set of 4 books pens have never been part of any Pelikan collection before and they will not be separated. Confirming that this pen belongs to the unique collection, the artist has designed the symbol of “Kao”, in red, under his signature, on the stem of fountain pen. More details about the auction and the pens in the auction will be released in August.

Maki-e is the art of Japanese lacquer painting, famous throughout the world for its beauty and mastery. The artist decorate the fountain with many layers of lacquer and powdered gold and silver. Each stage is followed by polishing up to that, step by step, the masterpiece is completed.
