Rohrer & Klingner 120th Anniversary limited edition ink writing sample
Rohrer & Klingner, a company with a solid history of manufacturing ink, is celebrating its 120th anniversary by releasing a limited edition ink. The color is blue-black and will be limited to only 1000 bottles worldwide. It will come in their standard 50mL bottle but with a special presentation box. At some retailers it will cost about four times what their regular ink costs! Thankfully, it’ll only be around $20 in the US. The Writing Desk will have sometime soon and it’s available for pre-order you can sign up at Goulet Pens to be notified when they arrive, with expected delivery in early July.

I’m not really a fan of blue-black inks but I am a fan of Rohrer & Klingner. They make a purple ink called Solferino and I have two bottles of it sitting on my ink shelf.

I see you’ve been practising your Chinese calligraphy. Nice work Dan. =D

I’ve been looking forward to the release of this ink – I am a fan of blue-blacks as well as R&K. I usually don’t buy ink without trying a sample first but I may give this one a go!

Is the writing above done in the actual ink?

I like the packaging, but packaging is not enough to get me to buy inks. If it were, I’d have far more Akkerman bottles than I do (I have zero so far). I agree that this is a situation where by the time reviews hit, the stock will be gone. I’m just not sure what I’ll end up doing. Black inks are sort of lost on me, but I love a good blue-black.

I didn’t create the writing sample but as far as I know, yes, it’s the actual ink.

You could always buy a bottle before it sells out (assuming it will), wait for reviews, then sell it later if you don’t think you’ll like it. Better than not being able to get one at all.

We have a review up on our site, as an alternate image on the product page (link here). Brian will be doing a blog post on it soon, too, but at least it gives you a little preview. We got a sample bottle a few weeks ago as a sneak peek ;)

Thanks, Dan and Rachel. I have thinking to do.

    I like Rohrer-Klingner inks myself.

Have you noticed the green sparkles that halo the ink in Solferino when used out of a pen? Using it on some water-color paper a drop at a time it dries with a bright green metallic sparkle around the outer rim of each drops splash! I was surprised coming from a purple ink. Same thing happens when you just put a bit on the paper and use a palette knife or brush. It is similar to the light bronze metallic sheen that Noodler’s Dragon Napalm leaves when used the same way.
