Lisa Anderson, Queen of Esterbrook, President of Pen Collectors of America, and co-namesake of Anderson Pens, shows us what she’s packin’ in her two daily carry cases.

Lisa writes:

Well-prepared pen-a-holic that I am, I usually carry 2 cases – the slimmer 6 pen case in my purse, and the bulkier 4 pen case in my work/travel tote. The 6 pen case I love, and I wish I could get another. The 4 pen case is even cooler with the woven leather on the flap. It holds larger pens, and it’s just really a lovely case.

Lisa Anderson Daily Carry Pens and Cases

The Pens:

Lisa Anderson Daily Carry Pens

Left to Right:

  1. Kaweco Sport in Burgundy with Fine Nib
Nice little pen, great for notes, grocery list, out and about type things. I usually keep Noodler’s Burgundy in this one.
  2. Namiki old style faceted Vanishing Point in Burgundy with Fine Nib
A fairly recent acquisition that I LOVE. It filled in the final gap in my VP collection. This is usually filled with Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Bordeaux.
  3. Conklin Symetrik in Brown & Blue with Fine Nib
We just started carrying this pen. Usually Brian is the one to “acquire” pens from our stock, but I saw this and there was no turning back. Lovely writer. Filled with Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris.
  4. Pelikan 400NN with Fine Nib
My go-to workhorse pen. Always writes, never skips, this baby never lets me down. Super smooth nib. Can you tell I LOVE this pen? I keep either Aurora Blue or (don’t hate me) Parker Penman Sapphire in this one.
  5. Aurora Mare with Fine Nib
I had wanted one of these forever and finally scored one as part of a consignment lot we handled. In case of fire, this goes with me. Bright, beautiful Aurora Blue in this treasure—for a “look at me” blue combo.
  6. S.T. Dupont Slim Model in Tortoise with Medium Nib
I don’t honestly know much about this pen, but I won it in the Chicago Pen Show auction for $75. It’s in excellent condition. While it’s a medium nib, it’s not too broad for me. Very smooth, and the lacquer is gorgeous. The best part of an S.T. Dupont is the “click” when you cap it. I love to play with it. Aurora Black in this to keep things simple.
  7. Sheaffer Intensity in Cornflower Blue with Fine Nib.
LOVE this pen—awesome writer, nice heft, pretty color. I keep J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche in this. Another always dependable pen for me.
  8. Esterbrook SJ in Green with a 9556 (Fine) Nib
One of my dearest treasures, I love 9556 nibs – always writes, never hesitates, great size for my hand. Noodler’s Sequoia in this almost always. When I mix it up, I use (gasp) Parker Penman Emerald.
  9. Bexley Jitterbug Edison Pearl in “Blues in the Night” Blue with Fine Nib
Can you tell I love blue? This little baby sports J. Herbin Bleu Nuit ink.
  10. Platinum Maki-e with Medium Nib
I bought this pen about 12 years ago. The Japanese medium nib is lovely – smoooooth writer, great flow. Aurora Blue in this and I’m never disappointed when I pick it up.

    Pen No. * ain’t a ******** – The ******* is a small pen from the write ups I’ve read.

    • http://fpgeeks.com/ Dan Smith

Sorry, but I had to edit your comment. Try to be a little more subtle next time, like “It bugs me when they don’t show the nibs.”

That burgundy faceted VP looks familiar. I think I know where that came from. ;-) ;-)

One of the Stealthiest presents I ever gave. :) So glad you had three!

  • Fred Pitts

As the clipper sailed upon the cold northern lake the moon sat like a pearl upon the water and the waves danced languorously, without the choppy swing we had expected.

Quick! Kill it! Smash it before it gets away!

yes, Dan, I bet that VP does look familiar. Soooo happy to have added that to the permanent rotation!

  • controlsfreak

    Does Mr. Gray dance?

  • Tamara

I don’t think bugs sing the blues in the night ;)

  • David

Nice carry Ms. Anderson. With all due respect – my thoughts…

    * Namiki old style faceted Vanishing Point in Burgundy with Fine Nib:

It is sooo nice to see an old-style Vanishing Point. The new Vanishing Points are really not for me. The new clips are a really bad design choice IMO.

    * S.T. Dupont Slim Model in Tortoise with Medium Nib:

I’ll venture a wild guess this pen is/was actually manufactured by Pelikan.

    * Esterbrook SJ in Green with a 9556 (Fine) Nib:

It seems you prefer fine nibs(?) Try a 9314-M or 9314-B nib in this SJ. You won’t regret it.

    Best Regards, David in Jakarta

      Hi David,
I have probably tried every nib made by Esterbrook (that’s our 1st love you know, Esties), and the oblique nibs just don’t work for me. Or more accurately, my handwriting & personality don’t work for the nicer nibs… Give me a 9556 or 9461 and I’m happy. The ST Dupont may have been made by anyone – did Pelikan make ST Dupont pens? I’d never heard that. It is marked Dupont at any rate. Thanks for the comments, now I’m going to do research lol

Lovely assortment of various brands, designs and eras! No red or orange pens, eh? Hmmmm…… ;)
But seriously, thanks for doing your Daily Carry, Lisa; before I saw the article, I would have bet good money that at least a third of them would be Esterbrooks! Thanks also for the ink info; you’ve given me some good ideas for future ink purchases…..

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=5016788 Lisa E. Anderson

      Hi Maja,
I do have a few other Esties that sit, inked and at the ready on my desk, but the ones pictured are what I usually lug around with me.

Feel free to email direct about ink – we’ve got lots with more coming!!!

      • Maja

Thanks again; I checked your website and I see you carry lots of brands! If my local pen store doesn’t carry R&K ink, I might have to order some from you & Brian!

  • melissa59

I did it! I recognized three of the 10, including the misnamed little bugger. Yeah, only knowing three isn’t something to dance about, but for a newbie like me it means I’m learning. :-)

  • Tiffany

That Daily Carry makes me feel jittery. Nice pens!

    Lisa,
Tell us a little bit more about who made your Carry Cases. i’m always looking for good recommendations.
    Txs.

I bought the 6 pen case from Joel Hamilton years & years ago. I have no idea who made it & he hasn’t carried it in a very long time. No identifying markings on it either, so I’m stumped. I would buy more if I could fine them. I LOVE it – perfect size, nice & slim. The one with the woven flap, is also a love love love item. It IS marked on the inside of the flap as “Penfolio Collection”, but again, no clue where to find these now. Penfolio by Menash shows nothing like mine – must be discontinued. This came as part of a very large consignment collection from years ago.

  • Brenda

    Nice…Thanks for sharing.

  • ianmedium

What a wonderful and varied collection of pens. I love the Aurora and Conklin in particular and the smaller leather case has that well used, well loved look about it. I have no idea what the incorrect description is however! Your collection has that well thought out and well loved look about it!

  • http://profiles.google.com/fjbmobile Fred Beiderbecke

Does the mis identified pen ever get revealed? I think I know which one it is, I liked it and did a search by name and got something different. That bugs me.

  • RagingDragon

I’m not dancing to that tune.

  • lastwizard4

I think easily spotted the mismatched. :) ) *That ain’t that brand showed in the cap!* Have fun!
