A couple weeks ago I saw an email come in from the Zoss List about a promotional discount on the first order of ink from a company called Organics Studio. I had never heard of Organics Studio but the offer was a little too good to pass up and I’m always game for trying out new inks. A few minutes later I had 6 bottles purchased and on their way to me.
So who is Organics Studio, what do they make, and is it any good?
Organics Studio is a small start up company based in Maryland created by Tyler Thompson, a biochemistry major at the University of Maryland. Their first (and only, as of right now) product is a line of fountain pen ink called OrganINK. I know what you’re probably thinking at this point, but no, they don’t have anything to do with organic products. Their name is a play on the subject of Organic Chemistry.
I don’t know about you but I’m feeling much better now that I know who to go after with pitchforks and torches should something go wrong. Actually, I doubt you’ll have a problem with any of their inks or services, but if you do, I’m sure Tyler will be more than willing to help you. He’s a very nice guy.
Their Elements line of OrganINK ink includes 10 different colors with more on the way. Currently available is Carbon Black, Cobalt Blue/Purple, Mercury Red, Neon Orange, Manganate V Blue/Black, Nickel Teal, Uranium Green, Lithium Violet, Vanadium Lavender, and Boron Brown. Each ink comes in a 55mL bottle for $12.50 or you can order a 5mL sample for only $2. I love that you can order a sample direct from the manufacturer. I wish every ink company offered something like that.
Organics Studio is also differentiating themselves by offering two levels of an Ink Review Membership. Each level includes a certain number of samples along with exclusive access to their Ink Reviewers Facebook page where you’ll receive extremely discounted pricing on inks directly from Organics Studio. This will be a nice feature to have once their ink is being sold through retailers, which they’re actively pursuing. You’ll also have first priority in receiving access to special/limited edition inks in the future.
C’mon, get to the inks already!
You can see a few swab samples I made below. The colors are fantastic. At the moment, I only have Carbon Black, Neon Orange, and Mercury Red in a few of my pens and I’m really enjoying them so far. I haven’t run any test yet, but you can expect to see Inkcyclopedia entries for each one of these inks in the future. In the meantime, be sure to check out Organics Studio’s website, Twitter, and facebook page.
