If you’re a fan of clear fountain pens then it may be hard to resist the new Pelikan M200 Classic Demonstrator fountain pen that’s soon to be released. We haven’t heard an official word about price or availability but it will be a limited production fountain pen. It features a hand-crafted, gold plated, stainless steel nib. The clip, fittings and ornamental rings are 24k gold plated and is, of course, a piston filler. Thank goodness I already have a similar model in Anthracite, otherwise I’d be looking to purchase a new pen.

UPDATE 7/23: The Pelikan M200 Classic Demonstrator fountain pen is a Special Edition for 2012 and is now available from some retailers at an MSRP of $175. Street price seems to be hovering around $140.

I think the TWSBI 540 can hold its own against it.

I’m pretty sure the price point of the Pelikan will be much higher than the 540, so I think you’re right.

This does remind me that when the first batch of 300 TWSBIs came out, there was to my recollection some discussion of gold tone furniture at some point. I guess we haven’t reached that point yet!

My sales rep says it’s going to have a real gold nib (not just gold-plated steel) but I haven’t seen anything official (or the price!!) to confirm it. Anyone know anything about this?

Both of my sources are European retailers. Assuming they’re correct in that they’re getting gold-plated nibs, it would be very interesting if the US version did indeed get a solid gold nib. I also wonder what that’ll do to the price.

Just got the official marketing docs. It is a gold-plated stainless steel nib, list price $175. :)
