In Japan, turning 60 is an important event called kanreki. It’s when your life has come full circle, when the clock resets and you start a new cycle of life. One of the traditions honored at kanreki is the wearing of a red chanchanko, a padded sleeveless kimono jacket with a matching hat. Red is an important part of kanreki and that’s why this pen celebrating kawaguchi Akihiro’s 60th birthday is red.
The ’3 traditional Reds’ of Japan appear on the cap, body, crown (top of the cap) & Blind Cap and are used to produce a fountain pen with an unique and beautiful gradation.
When the cap is closed and when the cap is posted while in use, the full body of the fountain pen will have a color-balanced appearance. When the pen is in use, the full gradation of the pen and its rich color balance becomes apparent from the crown to the barrel and the grip.
Of course, a 21k gold nib is an essential part of celebrating kanreki, whether for business or private use. This is a fountain pen that will allow the user to experience the greatest joy of writing.
The pen is made from PMMA resin, weighs 21.6g and is 129mm long by 18mm in diameter. With the pen is included a bottle of Sailor Jentle Ink (Blue-black), an instruction manual, and a blue-black cartridge. It’s currently on sale in Japan for just under $400.
