Sailor King of Pen Demonstrator cappedEarlier today we announced the Pelikan M200 Classic Demo, but if that demonstrator just isn’t big enough for you then I imagine the Sailor King of Pen Demonstrator will probably suffice. Measuring in at a massive 142mm long by 20mm in diameter it overshadows even the Montblanc 149. Being made from PMMA Resin (most commonly known as Plexiglas) keeps it nice and light, weighing in at only 37grams. What I really love about this pen is the nickel-chrome plated hardware and the extra large (#8) 21k gold nib. But, with a pen this big also comes a big price tag: MSRP is $990 but can be had from Nibs.com for $792.

But back to my argument about the pilot. What is the point of a demonstrator when you can’t see the ink! It is even worse in this one as there is only a tiny converter window. I just looked on Nibs site and they say you have to use a cartridge to get the effect which I think is totally unacceptable in a pen this price. A piston is the only way to go. I think If i were interested in a clear pen it would be Aurora

This pen writes like a dream! I’ve got the fine, and oh man is it smooth. Sailor nibs >>>>>

    Very nice!

I agree with ianmedium about ink visibility. If I were in the market for a gigantic demonstrator, I’d go with the special edition clear Pelikan M1000.

Ooo, forgot about that one Ron, that is on the top of the list as well. It is a real shame as this one does look lovely.

These demonstrators look interesting when they are new, but I don’t think I’d buy one–certainly not a costly one. I have an Ahab demonstrator that someone gave me. It’s sitting in an ammonia/water mix trying to remove the remains of Diamine Rustic Brown, which left a hot pink stain in the bottom section of the pen.

The Ahab is less expensive, so it might differ in materials. I’ve tried Rustic Brown with the TWSBI Diamond 530, no problems there.
