That’s right, you’ve read the headline correctly. This is a contest where lackluster ability is applauded and everyone’s a winner!
Let’s face it, some people just know how to draw. Every line they place on paper oozes van Gogh, Dalí, Larson, and Schultz. Then there’s the rest of us. Sure, we can doodle, we can draw stick men (maybe), we might even attempt an apple from time to time. But something is always just a bit off. It might be perspective, it might be shape. Even if we can identify the problem, we’re powerless to correct it.
Well now it’s our turn to shine! Let’s take pride in our collective lack of natural artistic ability and show the world just how fun Bad Cartoons can be!

Q: What constitutes bad?
A: If you think it’s bad, it qualifies.
Q: Who can enter?
A: You can enter! Even if you make six-plus figures a year as a professional illustrator, just give is your best bad.
Q: Are there any rules?
A: Just a few:
- At least some portion of the cartoon must be drawn with a fountain pen.
- The theme of the cartoon must be fountain pen related in some way, be that pens, ink, paper, etc.
- Nothing overly vulgar or offensive. Bad can be in good taste. Use your best judgement and we’ll see what happens.
Q: What can I win?
A: Fame and fortune and accolades! Ok, fortune not so much. In fact, no fortune. Maybe not even fame. But an accolade or two for sure!
Q: Will my cartoon be published?
A: We’ll publish as many Bad Cartoons as possible at the FPGeeks website.
Q: Do you mean bad drawing or bad humor?
A: Yes.
Q: How do I enter?
A: Your cartoon must either be scanned (not photographed) and sent in electronically or original artwork can be submitted via mail. Details below.
Q: Will I get my original artwork back?
A: If you supply a stamped and self-addressed return envelope, sure.
Q: When’s the deadline?
A: All Bad Cartoons must be received by 5:00pm Pacific on Friday, August 31, 2012.
Q: Can you provide an example of a Bad Cartoon?
A: I was afraid you’d ask that question. I’ve drawn a sample Bad Cartoon. I think it’s bad, so it qualifies. It’s at the bottom of this web page.
Q: Is this another famous FPGeeks Contest Without Borders?
A: Absolutely! This contest is open to anyone and everyone, world-wide.
Q: Can I submit only one Bad Cartoon?
A: You can submit as many Bad Cartoons as you like. We’d love for you to overwhelm us.
