Ira Stone, aka writingrav, is this week’s Poster Child for Fountain Pen Geeks everywhere. Not only does he carry 12 pens one day then 10 pens the next, but in his own words:

In addition I carry 3 pens in my pocket for emergency: two Kaweco Sports and the Jitterbug.

Ten or twelve pens in a case plus three “emergency” pens? Being prepared never looked so good!
We caught up with Ira on a day when he had his 12 pen case.

Very nice! Although that’s the strangest looking Lamy Accent I’ve ever seen…

      Discreetly, please.

      • MrsGouletPens

My apologies! Tact has never been my forte. The name of that pen is escaping me… almost looming over me….

  • ianmedium

Very very nice selection, I love the Tortoise Edison especially. You know, until I got my pen pouch I would never have used in a day all the pens I do now. If you were to look at my journal I seem to change every couple of pages now i have all that I do for selection on a daily basis. But boy oh boy you beat me! Tell me, what is the motivation to change pens during the day for you. For me it is a bit of emotion and a bit about what I am writing at the time rather than practical considerations like speed or such.

    • writingrav

I write pretty much all day for a living in addition to writing for fun. So, each project gets a different pen and ink, usually that’s three or four per day right there. Each page of my daily journal gets a different pen and ink for that day; that’s usually another three or four. I write approximately five letters a week, each letter written twice, once in my letter journal for so I have a copy, and then copied out on paper for posting. That’s two pens and ink per letter. You get the idea:)

      • ianmedium

Ahh, your like me. I too write each day in part for my work so different ideas require different pens. I keep the same ink in them all though.

“Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” Anyone know how to put an accent mark over the e in weave?

Wéave? Weavé? Wéavé? Wèavè? *snicker, snicker*

Anyway, I’m stumped. That little Jitterbug is sure sweet!

  • pelahale

I’ll cast a vote for *****. Not my favorite, as it’s not really heirloom quality.

  • writingrav

One correction. Either I or Eric erred, the Lamy Safari has a 1.5 italic nib on it. Otherwise, thanks for sharing guys.

  • David

Nary a vintage soul in the lot ;-(

    • http://fpgeeks.com/ Dan Smith

Well, we don’t know that for certain. If Ira’s Lamy 2000 was make in the ’60′s, I’d consider that vintage.

Something sounds foreign about the purplish prose describing one shiny metallic writing implement.

Really nice selection, Ira! That Edison Nouveau Encore in Turquoise Lagoon Resin is calling me…. :)
