The DC SuperShow starts this Thursday, August 9, 2012!

Washington Monument

As is my customary custom and traditional tradition, I will have my DC Pen Show List at the ready. Let the games begin:

Eric DC SuperShow List

As I learned in Chicago while hunting for my Pilot MYU, success is much more likely if you ask each and every person you run into if they have what you’re looking for, if they’ve seen what you’re looking for, if they have a guess as to where it might be found. But who remembers (or cares) to repeat that information to everyone? I don’t, but I’ve come up with a simple solution: I’m going to wear a name that blatantly displays my want list:

DC Pen Show Name Tag

In my imagination, the name tag list should help me find everything I’d like to find. I’ll have extra name tags so if you’re at the show and want to try this tactic, too, just find me and we’ll make it happen.

Comments, suggestions, modifications and encouragement always welcome. Let’s go to the show!

    Sounds like a good plan. Looking forward to meeting you in person!

    hahahhahaha well at least people will know what you are looking for if you advertise like that :)

    Are you open to posting the prices you pay for the items you buy? Sorry for the blunt question just extremely curious as to the prices one gets at shows and whether they are better than just over the Internet.

    • http://fpgeeks.com/ Dan Smith

      Regarding new items from retailers, you can sometimes get a better deal. Cash helps. If you’re looking for vintage, it’s hard to say. In my experience, the price at shows are very similar to what you find online. The huge of advantage is that you get to handle and inspect the pen before you purchase it.

        I would love to be able to hold a pen before you buy it or walk over to Mike and tune the nib!!!

      • Maja

        I agree with Dan (in my limited experience with pen shows). It also helps if you wait until the last day of the show to buy a pen you’re interested in, because chances are that you will be able to negotiate a lower price. The problems with that are (a.) the pen might already be sold and (b.) you might have spent all your money already.
        ~~~ Great wish list, Eric! Hope you find all the pens you are seeking :)
    I love name tags. so simple. So helpful.
  • Tom Oddo
    Name Badge is a perfect idea. It would help break the ice with other attendees as well as help you find the items on your shopping list. If I were going, which unfortunately I will not be, mine would read :
    Tom Oddo
    I’m Looking for : a reason not to buy more pens. For my wallet’s sake.
      So, it is fortunate you’re not going, then? For your wallet’s sake…
    can’t wait!
    That name tag is a great idea. There are no name tags at our local pen show but I might try it.
    As to the 146, why not go for a red one? They are much more rare. Or one with an interesting nib, like OB(B)?
    And apparently I’m leading you in Hemingway sightings 3-0 :=) I think you’d be lost if you saw one.
  • skyppere
    Don’t forget a visit to Ben’s Chili Bowl!
  • Harold Katz
    I have a black/platinum 146 that you are welcome to try out at the show. EF nib…Not for sale though…Love it
