One small point. I’ve had at least 10 nibs ground by Mike Masuyama at both Miami and Atlanta (successive) shows and he’s always charged $30 for a grind at the shows. Of course, a tune-up only would be a bit less.

Dan’s point on a nib tune up cannot be overemphasized. Most every FP person has a nib that would be Just Perfect If; it was a little wetter, dryer, smoother, had a bigger sweet spot, didn’t skip, etc; That’s where the tune up comes in. Life is too short to write with a hohum nib when for $20 or so you can get it tuned to perfection.

I personally would not get a nib ground EXCEPT AT a pen show. The difference in the finished grind can be that much better. I’ve never bought a pen at a show but for about $30 each, I’ve brought home 12-15 completely different than when they left and now writing perfectly pens. Take MORE pens that you Could Have ground/.tuned that you really “need” to. When you look over and see the nibmeister with spare time, if you haven’t, you’ll wish you had. (Tis better to have and not need than to need and not have.)
