How does it compare to Noodler’s Apache Sunset?

    • Stephen Brown

It has WAY less shading, and it seems a little blander to me.

  • Ns_Zhivago

Give PR Orange Crush a try. It is darker and shades beautifully.

    • Stephen Brown

Yes, that’s on my to-get list. I’ve heard good things about that ink!

  • Maja

Hey Stephen, how about an ink review of one of the Pilot Iroshizuku inks?
Thanks for all your hard work on these Inkcyclopedia reviews!

    • Stephen Brown

Oh, yeah. why not… I have one here: Momiji!

  • Luis Emilio Villegas Amador

Stephen, what “cheap” paper are you using? It seems good :P

    • Stephen Brown

Just copier paper, nothing fancy, but I agree it does behave fairly well :-) .

What makes an ink well-behaved? Does it have to pass all the tests in the videos or just some of them?

    • Stephen Brown

An ink is well-behaved when I say it is ;-) . No actually, any ink that shakes my hand when I enter the room is well-behaved. Okay, enough bad jokes… If it doesn’t feather and bleed through too much, I think it’s well-behaved.

Being “well-behaved” is probably a subjective description. What my be well-behaved for Stephen may not be for you or me. Thankfully, Stephen does an excellent job of providing detailed writing samples along with the video that everyone should be able to decide whether an ink is “well-behaved” on their own.

This J. Herbin Indian Orange is gorgeous. I think I may have to indulge in this one! For another ink, how about a Rohrer & Klingner?

  • Breck

Hey Maja! Speaking of Iroshizuku inks and orange, my favorite in both categories is their Fuyu-gaki (translated as “Winter Persimmon” – the Japanese are so elegant). Nice review as usual Stephen, and once again, featuring an ink by my favorite ink manufacturer, the oh so elegant French house of J. Herbin.

‘A pumpkin on Xanax or something…’ Love the characterization :)
