Platt Rogers Spencer is the originator of Spencerian script. Michael Sull, a master penman, recently dedicated a monument in Mr. Spencer’s honor complete with a ceremony attended by well known penmanship teachers in Lake Geneva, Ohio, the home town of Platt R. Spencer.
Michael Sull also helped in the creation of this limited edition fountain pen that will be produced by Edison Pen Co. and sold exclusively through Greg Minuskin. These special pens, hand crafted with Mr. Spencer’s own signature on the barrel, and a quill motif on the top cap, plus engraving of his name and year/death, is truly a “Must Have” for the serious penman person, or collector.
The pens come in two color styles, red hard rubber ripple and green hard rubber ripple, reminiscent of the early hard rubber ripple pens made by Waterman’s and other brands of that era. The flat top of the cap and barrel taper is also reminiscent of the early Parker Duofolds both in style and shape of the cap and pen body.
There is also a selection of nibs, by size (small, medium, broad point, etc.) and come in either 18k gold or steel. Following is a list of the nibs available for this pen:
Steel nibs will be in XF, F, M, or B.
18k nibs will be in F, M, or B.
14k nibs with a medium point will be available from Mr. Minuskin which will have the option of being ground to any size down to a needlepoint with added flex.
Pricing has not been finalized but expect the steel nib pen to be around $200, with gold nibs going for approximately $295. Adding flex and grinding the nib will be an additional $135, regrind alone is $70, and adding only flex with no grind is an additional $65.
The pen with a Steel nib will be $185. With an 18k or 14k nib, $295.
Italic grinds or regrinds will be $70. Adding Flex to the 14k nib will be $65.
The buying period is open now, and will end on October 19th.
All pens will be c/c (Cartridge Converter) filling systems.
