Opera Blue Typhoon & Crystal Demonstrator

Featuring: New Smartouch tubular Nib and new Mosquito Filler. Visconti has created two new writing instruments at the fore front of writing technology. Beneath the body of these beautiful pens lie a wealth of innovation and creativity:

The New Visconti Smartouch nib
The New Visconti ‘Mosquito’ ink adaptor
The Visconti double reservoir power filler
The Visconti ‘hook safe lock’ system

visconti fountain pen tubular nib mosquitoVisconti has again reinforced itself as the world’s most creative manufacturer of luxury writing instruments. With innovation abound these new pens will satisfy even the most demanding pen aficionado.

Each pen belongs to the popular “Squaring the circle” collection. The Blue Typhoon resin is rich in color, whilst the Crystal is a pure demonstrator with all internal components visible. This is the first time Visconti has made a completely clear demonstrator and two of Visconti’s patented designs can be perfectly viewed: the “double reservoir power filler” prevents a fountain pen from leaking during air travel and the “hook safe lock” prevents a pen cap from coming undone in a pocket or bag.

Visconti Smartouch Tubular Nib

After extensive testing Visconti finally introduce the new Smartouch Tubular Nib. Its special shape is turned from a capillarity tube made of Chromium 18. The tube precisely wraps around the feed, resulting in a unique shape and allowing the user to fill his pen without the need to dip the entire grip and nib section into ink. This results in a cleaner and more efficient fill and, due to the nibs uniquely positioned air hole and design, the nib will stay wet for longer before drying out.

Visconti Mosquito filler

The Visconti Mosquito ink filling adapter may only be used together with the new Smartouch nib. This interesting device attaches to the end of the pen and is used to fill the pen with ink. The adapter avoids dipping the nib directly into ink and at the same time every last drop of ink will be used from the ink bottle.

Mosquito Filler: use and maintenance

Position the tubular nib directly in front of the Mosquito adapter, with markings facing one another
Gently press the adapter until it touches the pen section.
Fill the pen per instructions
Gently pull out the adapter with a straight movement. Do not unscrew.
Wipe the nib as usual
Rinse the adapter with clear water.

Warning :

Always put the fountain pen nib pointing the mark in the adapter. Do not reverse or angle it.
Never try to unscrew the adapter, gently pull it off the pen.

I saw the Opera Crystal Demonstrator and the Mosquito filling at the DC show…. what a cool pen! Very well designed. Would be great if that filling system could be used for more than just those pens… maybe someday!

  • Michel de Montreal

    hmmmm STOP TEMPTING ME!!!! lol

  • The Ruffled Quill

Oh No another one joins the list – The blue is a real looker, very nice, great to see another piston filler!

  • Stiggy Ray Cyrus

The ghosts of Sheaffer-Past are calling with that one…several generations’ worth, too! Obviously there’s the Snorkel connection, but in looking at the photo of that Opera Typhoon’s nib, there’s an awful lot of similarity there to the conical Triumph nib design from the 40s – complete with the up-sweeping Waverley-esque tipping! If it writes anywhere near as nicely as those nibs do, Visconti will definitely end up with a winner. Always good to see that the future looks at the past for inspiration.

If it was my money, I’d opt for 2 PFM’s and a Snork!

Seems to have the practicality of the Snorkel, without the mechanical complexity.

Shame about the price, but perhaps if this is successful, the technology might find its way into other pens in the range? One to watch, I guess.

      • cerbeos

Yep! Awesome – but way too much.

      • David

Heh heh… FrankenSnorkel with a FrankenTriumph nib! Waaay too expensive too.

      • Jonro

I tend to agree. This pen, with its reinterpretation of vintage Sheaffer technology, would be a great pen — at half the price. $700 is too expensive for an acrylic pen with a stainless steel nib.

$500+ for a pen with a steel nib is RIDICULOUS! The design is awesome, but a reasonable price would probably be more like $400. The design looks great though!

  • Parnesh

Pls Visconti pls make a regular edition (meaning significantly cheaper) pen like these!

  • cerbeos

Awesome!!! And I agree with Parnesh – Make something like this in the 200-ish range! I’d buy one!

I really wish I could justify buying this pen, but it’s about $200 too expensive (even for a Visconti pen).

I do appreciate the type of innovation Visconti seems to be doing though.

like the filler and nib; but luckily I don’t like the pen – looks a little tacky.

  • Michel de Montreal

yeah, i was tempted, ooooh so tempted, the blue swirls are just gorgeous…. i don’t care much for the filling, i have a snorkel and it’s great….. but a chromium nib? for that price?
I mean seriously…. i’d rather get a pilot custom 823 for a third of the price with a gold nib….. now it’s not all about the gold that I understand….. but common where is the price of this pen going?

  • cerbeos

The guy in the video is handling that thing like his entire career will end if it is dropped… Makes the entire video worthless IMO – I can’t stand watching him!

I was not impressed with the nib at the fpn shop. It looked honestly dull and uninspiring. For that amount of money, I’d want a gold nib! Not gonna be getting this one I’m afraid.
