The Hippocratic Oath is an oath historically taken by physicians, physician assistants’ and other healthcare professionals swearing to practice medicine ethically and honestly. It is widely believed to have been written by Hippocrates, often regarded as the father of western medicine. It requires a new physician to swear upon a number of healing gods that he will uphold a number of professional ethical standards.

Hippocrates invented the medical record, theorized the need to rationally observe patients, taking note and transcribing the appearance and symptoms, and introduced for the first time, the concepts of diagnosis and prognosis. It is under these theories that the Medical School of Salerno is founded, the first major medical institution in Europe during the Middle Ages (eleventh century), regarded by many as the forerunner of the modern university.

The Hippocratica collection is turned by hand from solid bars of special red and blue resins: all trimmings are in special metal alloy and are plated with precious rhodium. The top of the cap offers a carving portraying the first-recognized diploma in medicine awarded by the School of Medicine and is rhodium plated. The clip portrays the Rod of Asclepius, which is a serpent-entwined rod wielded by the Greek god Asclepius, a symbol associated with healing and medicine.

The Hippocratica Limited Edition fountain pen comes with Delta’s new, internationally patented Fusion nib that combines steel and 18k gold. Available nib sizes include EF, F, M, B and Stub. The Hippocratica fountain pen will utilize the cartridge/converter filling system and will sell for a MSRP of $495, with a street price of $379.

Delta is the king of strange color combos. Still, this one could grow on me. I think the clip is too large though. Subtlety goes a long way with me.

Brilliant concept but poorly executed in my opinion.
