lamy_studio_royal_red_fountain_pen_l068For 2012 Lamy is producing a special edition Studio in Royal Red. The Studio is known for its propeller-shaped metal clip designed by Hannes Wettstein, the Swiss designer who also created the Lamy Scribble.

The Lamy Studio is available in several finishes and nib options with the Royal Red adding some much need color to the line. The Royal Red Studio features an elaborate lacquering process in which the lacquer is built up in several layers and finished with a final matte coat of clear lacquer.

For this 2012 special edition Lamy chose to fit the Royal Red fountain pen with a 14k bi-color gold nib and, like all other Studios, will accept Lamy’s T10 cartridge or Z26 converter. The Lamy Royal Red Studio will be available in October at a MSRP of $195 with an expected street price of around $156. If you’d like to reserve yours, you can pre-order it from Pens and Leather.

What’s taken them so long? I’ve wanted a Studio for ages but have been underwhelmed by the range, until now… It’s beautiful – elegants, simple and understated. I can’t wait.

    Hi Dan,
Did you hear anything about the gold nib being changed to steel one? My favourite vendor lists this pen with steel nib and he said there was a last minute change by LAMY. He’s a Europe based seller. I don’t know if this is only the case for Europe and LAMY US is still planning to offer this with 14K nib, or not.

I hadn’t heard that. But since we’re not a retailer we’re rarely the first to get the news. I would actually welcome a steel nib no this pen because I’m sure it drops the price quite a bit.

Hmmm.. I checked with Lamy USA and they hadn’t heard that info.. at least not as of right now. The one we saw this summer in person had a 14k nib. Most of the LE Studios (to my knowledge) have had gold nibs. I would welcome it either way… the gold looks really hot, but the steel is more affordable.

        Hi Rachel,
I also thought limited editions would come with gold nibs. That’s why I was surprised to see my vendor offering it with steel nib. He said that it is a last minute change by LAMY. Hopefully, I’m getting mine with a 14K OB nib anyway. We’ll wait and see the situation in US, I guess.

The one I saw in a shop in England had a steel nib, and the guy seemed surprised when I brought it up, he hadn’t heard that it would have a gold nib. I’m actually kind of relieved, since I’m more likely to be able to gather funds for a steel nibbed one before they run out.
