With the first auction complete we’re starting to get a brief glimpse of what’s to come with these one-of-a-kind maki-e fountain pens. The Snow Crystal was the first auction to end earlier today. It’s based on the M800 and started with a minimum bid of €2,100 (~$2577). Six days into the auction and the price had only risen €250, but in the last six minutes of bidding the price rose over €1000 to an impressive finish of €3,450 (~$4476).

It’ll be very interesting to see how the pens compare. Stop back here each day to find out. You can find out more about each pen and the auction at pelikan.com/auction.

doesn’t seem like a horible price for a piece of art. i’d never buy one though…

I know right? If I could spare the money… Scratch that, if I *had* the money…

  • The Ruffled Quill

This might be as interesting as knowing what the Monnet fetched at latest auction …. These pieces are works of high art but are way way out of the reach of mere mortals….

What is the reasoning behind Pelikan having such an auction in the first place?

    • snedwos

      Money and publicity, I guess.

Mushu Yamazaki’s works never cease to amaze me with their high levels of intricacy and accuracy!

  • Chechu

What is the guarantee somebody from Pelikan didn’t bid on most of them for resale? A frustrated bidder.

  • snedwos

Wow, the white tiger didn’t sell?
