After only two days of comments on TWSBI’s facebook post announcing the PP017 fountain pen, they’ve made changes to reflect users’ wants and to ease manufacturing.

In version 0.2 they’ve removed the metal band from the front of the section and the end of the barrel. TWSBI has also remodeled the piston knob and added an 0-ring at the end of the barrel for the cap to post to instead of posting it directly on the piston knob like on the 540. I imagine this will make many of you very happy.

Ah, now that Smoke colour is very nice.

  • Manutius

getting better and better, also loved the milky colour. This just looks fantastic, problem is I really wouldn’t buy another 540 now, this seems like such an improvement to TWSBI aesthetics.

  • Brian Anderson

The Black looks nice. I hope this is not taking away from development of the 850, which is a pen I seriously want!

Still, the big jump in diameter from the barrel to the section and the location of the threads could make this very uncomfortable to hold.

That new rendering looks fantastic. If they do numerous colors and can keep it in the $25-35 range people are going to buy multiples. If they can keep the same range of nib options as the 540 I will buy multiples. I hope the frosty colors make it to production. I hope this pen makes TWISBI a zillion francs.

Both of these look sharp. I appreciate the fatter barrel, & overall improved aesthetics. Only the seemingly large step from barrel to grip remains a concern.

    • Breck

Agreed. I saw that too ’cause I am always looking a grip sections b/c of my small hands. I wonder how comfortable it would be if one held one’s pen back a bit like some of us do?

piston capacity looks a bit larger in the picture too.

  • The Ruffled Quill

The update model would be one game changer of a fountain pen if delivered at the projected price point, not to mention if they offer multiple colors and nib options

I am a heretic in that I dislike the Diamond 540 and Vac700 but I think that this new model will appeal to me! Postable, inexpensive, piston-filling fountain pen? Yes please.

“…remodeled the piston knob and added an 0-ring at the end of the barrel

    like on the 540.”

Amazing. I can’t believe after the posting debacle of the 540 they even went through ONE prototype with the exact same problem.Well… at least they fixed it.

Now if we can just get this in all the colors out of the box with the 1.1mm nib already on it. Getting that 1.1mm nib is a royal pain.

These guys at TWSBI are really on-the-ball. The way a company ought to be. Thanks for keeping us geeks abreast of developments from this outstanding Taiwanese pen company. Now if I only had larger hands…
