To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Visconti has launched a special edition production of the Homo Sapiens Steel Age collection. This collection is a limited edition run with only 2,500 pieces available worldwide.

The Homo Sapiens fountain pens are crafted from lava from Mt. Etna, an active volcano. A patented formula of pure basaltic lava catalyzed with resin creates a material perfect for writing instruments. The clip, rings, and trim on the Midi are crafted in solid stainless marine steel. The Midi collection pens have caps with a special lava coin on top, embossed with the new 25th anniversary logo. The fountain pens with piston-filling mechanisms feature the Visconti 23K 950 palladium Dreamtouch nib. Nibs are available in extra-fine, fine, medium, and broad.

The Steel Age Homo Sapiens Midi gift set is a thank you gesture from Visconti. The fountain pen comes with a Dreamtouch 2-slot leather pen case and one of Visconti’s famous traveling ink pots, valued at $80USD and $70USD respectively. The price of the 25th Anniversary Steel Age Homo Sapiens Midi gift set is $495.00USD.

I thought they were doing something new for their 25th Anniversary? I have the steel age already, and not sure that a “coin” on the top is worth buying another. I gotta admit, as an avid Visconti collector I am just a little disappointed if this is it. I am going to hold out hope there is still something new and amazing in the wings.

Ah, since this was the next pen on my to-buy list, I’m intrigued.
