Montblanc Great Characters Leonardo Da Vinci Limited Edition Fountain pen

We don’t know a whole lot about this wild looking pen, but we do know that it is an homage to the genius Leonardo da Vinci. The fountain pen is a Limited Edition of 3000 pieces and features a cap and body made of anodized aluminum. The rest of the hardware is platinum plated, except for the the gear on the clip which is rose gold plated.

Every detail of the design directly reflects the original sketches of flying machines and the mechanical constructions created by Leonardo da Vinci. The wedge shapes are reminiscent of his method to connect mechanical parts to one another. The design of a wing engraved on the section and the bat on the nib pay homage to his study on the characteristics of flying animals, while the mirror on top of the cap, which reveals the Montblanc emblem, is a reference to his research in the field of optics.

This edition, which honors one of the greatest pioneers of science, will be available in November at a MSRP of €2830. We’ll provide more information as soon as we have it.

And, of course, we all know it will be wildly expensive! ;)

    Leonardo is my favorite genius.

I hope the filler system of this pen is an advanced set of pulleys and counterweights.

I just bought one of these. It is a great pen with many details smartly designed as a tribute to Leonardo’s genius and dream of flying. It is perfect for daily use as Montblanc’s mechanism is truly leak free.

What is the body of this pen made out of? Does it feel heavy?

It does take an uncommon amount of ingenuity to devise a roller-clip that will still chew a pocket to ribbons.

lol, how many owners of this pen do you think will actually use it, let alone stick it in their pocket?

My goodness, that’s a mighty step between the barrel and the section, and with knurling on the lip too. Altogether a thing of sharp edges by the look of it.

At that price point, I doubt anyone who buys one of these would ever ink it.

  • AoKiu

    Expensive and ugly!

  • JustDaveyB

Is there going to be a matching ink?

I would think so by I haven’t heard for sure. I can’t imagine Montblanc letting a marketing situation like this escape them.

It comes with a new color ink which is between grey and brown. The weight of the ink pen is very balanced; it has the weight you like to have when you are writing. The only thing which irritates me is the rose golden wheel a the clip. It just does not realy fit.
