Re: Platinum Century #3776 Double Broad Nib

I haven't tried enough flex nibs to give an accurate description but it's softer than the Noodler's flex. I can get decent line variation from it if I want that, or I can just use it for the sort of...
  2. Re: How to make your own notebook or Midori insert book

Very nice. I'm considering making my own notebook inserts since most of the A5-sized notebooks I can source here aren't too fountain pen friendly or are too expensive for daily use. I just have to...

Re: Platinum Century #3776 Double Broad Nib

I have a red one with a fine nib which I liked very much so I got a black one with a soft fine nib. Waiting for it to arrive but I tried my friend's SF and enjoyed the feel of it.
  5. Re: Noodler's Baystate blue just ruined my Ahab! Help!

Well I'd like a list of inks that have stained pens, not a list of inks to avoid. I'd also like a list of pens that are prone to staining, whether because of the material or design or manufacturing. ...

It shouldn't come loose because the nibs are the same size and shape. Either the nib isn't in right or something is broken.

    Re: Solid gold??

I can't hear the recording, but that is one scary pen. I'd like to see it up close. The dragon overlay looks like it's made of some kind of plastic.

    Re: Solid gold??

At least it's a bit lighter, the other one is nearly a quarter-pounder.

Actually, Jinhao made a dragon pen which I really rather like the look of, the No. 5000 with a pierced gold plated overlay...

    Re: Crane's fountain pen question

Yes, over time, cartridges can dry up. I had some old Sheaffer and Waterman carts that were half full.

Maybe it's leaking because the nib and feed don't fit in the section properly? Or aren't set...

    Re: Solid gold??

This is the dragon pen I'm looking at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170885348984?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

It's still quite ornate but at least it doesn't have two creatures...

    Re: Solid gold??

And the box looks like it can re-purposed to hold many pens ;) Maybe the seller has non-gold nibbed versions that sell for much less but have the ding & box with them.

I agree with you about the ding (?) & box. Really nice pen stand. I'm interested in getting Chinese pens that look Chinese, rather than the ones that look like knock offs of Western brands. I have a...

    Re: What do you write?

Hehe. In my case, it might be habit. I also remember things better when I write them down, even if I don't ever refer to my notes. Like I don't forget appointments that I list in my appointment book.
  14. Re: Noodler's Baystate blue just ruined my Ahab! Help!

So, thus far, the list of scary staining inks is: 1) BSB, 2) Kung Te-Cheung, 3) Aurora Blue.

  19. Re: Noodler's Baystate blue just ruined my Ahab! Help!

That's really weird. I use BSB in a black Pilot 78G. If I hold it at a certain angle I can see how the ink has stained the feed & section, but nothing else has happened to the pen.

Like others, I think the pen is even more beautiful with the string repair. What a fortuitous accident. :)

    Re: Ebonite Pen Recommendation

Right now, peytonstreetpens.com has Rangas with Sheaffer nib options. Some are no nonsense nibs. But here's the one I find interesting -- a Ranga with a steel inlaid nib for only $68:

Re: What is your latest pen acquisition?

About the Waterman 354 - I'm curious about how the lever looks & the top of the cap. From the pics above, the pen resembles my Stalwart. Will have to check the details when I get home.
