Default J Herbin 1670 Blue Ocean, now with added sparkle.

J Herbin have, apparently very quietly, added gold flecks to their Blue Ocean 1670 edition ink. I'm somewhat surprised this hasn't been mentioned more, but I only found out via Bureau Direct on Instagram, and it seems it was a bit of a surprise to them too when their latest order came in. They've uploaded a couple of videos:

Of course I ordered it as soon as I saw it, and I'll be picking my bottle up from the post office on my way home. Will upload photos when I get it!

Should mention I've been assured if you order from Bureau Direct you will get a new formula bottle, even though it doesn't mention it on the website. They ran out of the old sort.

Thanks, I look forward to your report, too. I saw this somewhere else but am glad to get it confirmed. I admit that I like the original 1670 Blue, but I can understand why they'd do this when Stormy Gray seems like it's been such a success.

The thing is, I just don't understand why this has been done without an official announcement by the company.

I think blue with silver sparkles would be awesome. I still need to get a bottle of Stormy Grey and Rouge Hematite. Now I have another to get.

Yeah I wish it was silver, but I'll take blue with gold too!

It says out of stock now. Could it be already? When did you order?

Ok, a few photos for you!

I can't quite capture the blue with artificial light and my phone camera, but you can see the sparkle. It seems the sparkly is more fluid than in stormy grey (as in the bureau direct video) and, though I agree silver would have gone well with blue and would probably have been my preferred sparkly addition, the gold does look really good. Nice and wet as well, flows really nicely.

I ordered this on Friday last week (it's been waiting at the sorting office for me for a couple of days!) so they could well have sold out if word has got around!

It's in stock at CultPens at the moment, and they've confirmed they have the new formula, although they say there's less gold than in Stormy Grey. And it's 10% off everything for the next few days (until 13th February).

If there is less gold it's hardly noticeable. If anything I'd say the gold flows more freely in this one, so it sparkles more.

The Goulets already said they will make a big announcement as soon as their order of bleu ocean comes in. They want to be sure the new version is what's in the box first.

Hmmm. Maybe this will be something to look for at the LA show next week.

i tried that last night with some .008 inch particle fine glitter. What few particles that came out of the pen fell off one the ink dried and I have to disassemble my nib creeper and scrub out everything.

Does anyone have a better source for extra fine glitter other than a crafts store?

Uh, I don't think that is going to work, and I'd never risk the hassles afterward in any of my pens. This has to be powdered something or other, not larger particulates like glitter.

I suspect that given the success of these gold flaked inks other ink manufacturers will be looking enviously at this and possibly planning similar products. I suppose that it would have to be gold or white gold powder as silver would create problems with corrosion
