    Default What camera?

I would like to hone my skills with photographying my pens. Unfortunately I only have a small Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX 3 6 mega pixel Lumix digital camera. It has a macro mode.
Can anyone advise whether it would be OK for taking shots of pens and closeups.
Also lighting and background tips would be appreciated.

I don't know that particular camera. However, small sensor cameras are great for macro photography.

I just edited my post to include the word Lumix which I omitted. That will probably create less confusion

No, I'm sorry, I meant, I know the Pan-Leicas, I just am not familiar with your model. But generally speaking I got better macro photography from my terrible-in-other-ways small sensor ancient Nikon P&S than I do now with an expensive full format Nikon. At least for me, I found the small sensor was an advantage with macro photography, and the shutter lag doesn't matter at all in that application.
