Default Thoughts on these "special edition" Sailor pens?

Came across these during recent travels across the www. Similar concept to Bung Box ink, and a couple of these are pretty nice.

What's to say? The Pro Gear is a solid pen, well-designed and well executed, and quality control is (to the best of my knowledge) very good. I have two, one of the "Realo" version (piston-fill) and I love them both.

So after that it's just whether or not a special finish or material floats your boat. One I wished I would have known about when it was available - and I can't remember what it was called - had a dark brown body with ivory finials, and there was a subtle glittery component as well. I liked it, I'm sure some people didn't, but it sold out. So, if it is not just a special but a "limited" edition, there is the (slight) possibility it will increase in value over time.

    My $0.02.

This may be slightly off topic, but am I the only one who's had a rather bad experience with Sailor converters? I've had three (I think) leak into the barrel of my Sapporo. I'm debating if this is reason enough to give up on the brand, or if it's worth giving it another try (replacing the converter and trying again).

Thanks for bringing that up. A quick search and brief reading shows its not an uncommon issue. One person thinks that working the converter piston tends to unscrew the converter top. Another found greasing the piston and keeping the top skewed tight solved the issue.

As a day old owner of a Sapporo I plan to not let this one go, but should probably order a couple of spare converters.

I really like the ocean inspired light blue (Japan) Sapporo, but *can't* quit justify it at the moment. We'll see....

Argh! Yes to the above. I adopted a Sailor Pro Color from a friend, and noticed this last night. Inside of light pink pen is now blue. :<

Bummer! Hope you find an easy solution. Just got a box of cartridges in, but feel compelled to work the converter through a number of inkings first.

Thanks for feedback! Well... Seems that my Sapporo is destined to remain in my pen case, uninked. (I don't sell pens. Too much fuss.) It's a pity that Sailor can't make more reliable converters because it really is a nice pen otherwise.

    My $0.02.
The Black Velvet. I NEEDED it the moment I saw it; had never spent that much on a pen before. So happy I got it.

If, as you say, another special edition struck me as purdy, I'd buy in a heartbeat. I've already bought some specialties that are a few steps below the PG, just because the finish appealed to me.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

Made a go with an attempt to order a LE Professional Gear Slim through White Rabbit Express, from a store named Usagiya. Model is called "Ushimado Namiko". It reminded me of the color of the water, when we crossed over the edge of the Continental Shelf west of the Farallones. The release was over a year ago, so no joy. Just looking at the pics brought back a lot of memories.

Bung Box had a wicked looking Sapporo, with metal work that looks similar to the Black Ion pieces on the Professional Gear Imperial. Nice but it doesn't quite speak to me--yet.

There's also the Morita Professional Gear Slim from Morita Fountain Pen Shop.

I got the Morita Pro Gear last year while in Osaka. He is a nice man and has a wonderful little shop. I would recommend him to anyone. You have to be patient his English is not the best but well worth the effort.

I got the special edition for myself a beautiful blue color. Only he has it in EF nib. And I got a standard black sailor f for a gift. Both are wonderful pens and I enjoy them

Nibs-dot-com has a similar blue, but not the same.

That's a nice looking pen. At his website it currently doesn't show the ef as an option. It was mentioned he keeps this model in stock, so a purchase through White Rabbit Express might be an option.

I checked through WRE and the Bung Box "The Witch" Pro Gear Slim was also unavailable.

Not my cup of tea, but Sailor shows this being released in early March.

Nice pen. I love the Sailor writing experience.

Pens are very very personal. What I like others may not and Vice versa.

I will most likely get a few more pens when I return to Japan in November.

This might just be the pen that fills the last space in my 32-pen case.....!!!
My pen budget just got "crunched" by the IRS!!!!

Always try to get the dibs.....on fountain pens with EF nibs!!
