    Default Pira's InkTest Trees

Instead of tediously writing about athletic & slothful Canidae, I decided to draw trees as ink samples....

For consistency sake the paper is always Stillman&Birn, Zeta & the trunk is always drawn with Platinum Carbon Black. The foliage is the inktest and I try to break the colour by using it as a wash. Same method each time. I thought it best for the trees to have their own little thread in here, instead of scattered around the creative gallery.

Today I hit #150 with MontBlanc ~ Tolstoy

I've been consolidating them in Pinterest in case you are interested in taking a gander at the forest of ink:

I've always loved your trees, Pira. Very happy to see them here. They're beautiful and a clever way to show off inks.
I'm much more drawn to visual representations than generic pages of words. More please........

Much appreciate the cheerleading. They might come in waves, but they seem to just keep coming. Heaven knows I haven't tapped all my inks yet and oddly enough they keep coming in the door. That's a matter for the 'addiction' thread though..

    InkTest Tree: Sailor Jentle Blue

... is a bright medium blue and yet another in a long list of blue inks that refuse to scan or photograph in a manner that depicts the true colour. .... my bane

I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this colour is;starting out a startlingly Bic pen blue but then it mellows as it dries to a medium denim with an undertone of red. This stuff loves a flex nib. So for what it's worth...here are the results.

Well, some days you think you've seen it all, and then a new perspective shows up. Pira, thanks for these lovely works of art masquerading at ink examinations. <3

    Iroshizuku ~ Shin-kai

Very complex blue grey ink ...stunning actually and photographs (these on an overcast day) just don't do this shade of ink justice.

I used a pair of watercolour round brushes. One to apply the water to the paper & a second, smaller one to apply the ink to the wet areas.

InkTest Tree: Montblanc ~ Midnight Blue IG version

...too bad they are not making this shade an iron gall any longer. It's a nice blue that works wonderfully well with dip nibs, and would be beautiful for addressing envelopes.

Beautiful! I do have a small amount of the IG MB ink. Also made a lame attempt at a tree with a Sailor Kobe green.

I'm sure it's not lame at all, just unique onto you.

It is interesting how the different inks behave...IGs just don't play like non - IG inks do. They are amazingly stubborn....and yet I keep seeking them out
