Default Waterman Skywriter (Canadian/Alco) sac size?

    Hi folks...

I'm quite excited about starting to learn about pen restoration. I'm the lucky purchaser of the Waterman Skywriter DavidTheGnome was writing about in this thread:

I'm starting to place orders for tools/supplies to get started, but not sure what size inc sac to get? I have managed to find an article stating a #16 sac for the other 1st gen Skywriter (with the Aiken Lambert imprint), not sure if I'm safe to assume this one will also be a #16 sac. Is there anyone around familiar enough with this pen to advise?

    Cheers,
    Wade

Both #16 and #17 works fine for that pen and hundreds other pens that size.

What you have to be careful is that the pressure plate on most of these are corroded, therefore you may need to get a replacement J-bar.

I think Skywriter would possibly have the same size sac as a Crusader. Assuming they are the same size, then #16 sac is used when you are using the original j bar, and "If you are using a modern two-piece replacement pressure bar (illustrated here), choose a sac one or two sizes smaller than indicated in the chart", which means #14 or #15 sac is preferred. IMO, it's probably better to just use a smaller sac even if the original j bar is working. It's not a huge difference in ink capacity and if the original j bar fails in the future, you can just put in a replacement without worrying about sac size.
