    Default Toothy Paper

I am a big user of Rhodia Premium, I do enjoy it. The one drawback it is slightly slick. I want to branchout looking for a paper that would more toothy. Any suggestions?

    J. Lalo Verge de France has a laid texture which is kind of like a lot of microbumps. It is not lined. Not for everyone, to be sure. I think Life paper has a little more tooth than Rhodia though I've only used in a notebook.

The G. Lalo papers are wonderful...especially in texture. A bad, stiff nib is a pain on them though.

Slightly more toothy though not anywhere near G.Lalo for me is the Japanese Graphilo brand. Very hard to find in the States but I found it on Rakuten as well as Amazon.JP.

Meanwhile, if you are at Rhodia R,(Premium), maybe a drop down to regular Rhodia paper may give you more "bite".

I have also found that Japanese brands Midori and Life as well as Franklin Christoph's paper have a bit more tooth than Rhodia Premium.

The Exacompta journals by Clairefontaine seem to have the right toothiness for me. Oh, and Baron Fig journals too!

I much prefer toothy paper. I hate that chalky glassy crap. Great if you have an easy flowing ink and an old pen with an ebonite feed you can drive a truck through but if you have a somewhat drier smaller nib all that chalky sizing can get gummy fast.

My go to is Tsubame notebooks. GREAT quality paper that is surprisingly affordable in a format I enjoy. One of the few papers I use both sides of the page on. Very good on ghosting and show through and has a quasi laid finish. I go through packs of the B5 books every year. I love these notebooks.

L!fe also has some ink gripping bumpiness. I don't like their notebooks all that much but LOVE their pads when I can get them.

Leuchtturm1917. Forget using both sides of the page but the texture of the paper is very nice.
