    Default Sailor Music Nib

I have read in several places that a Music Nib, is better suited for drawing and a not daily writer. For those that use a Music Nib do you use for writing?

Only if I want to write REALLY REALLY BIG letterforms. My Sailor music nib and also the Zoom nib: I had to have them, but rarely use them. They are paintbrushes. (I also have a Sheaffer Targa with something like a 4B italic nib. Rarely used.)

It may depend on your handwriting, and whether you write large letterforms anyway. Hope this helps.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

It's not loaded now, but I MAY have a pic somewhere. Oddly enough it's designated 'M.' But it's a shovel.

    Cool Re: Sailor Music Nib

I have one music nib, though a Franklin Christoph rather than a Sailor, and it is very good for Gothic/Blackletter fonts; I would be very interested in trying a Sailor music nib!

One thing regarding Sailor's music nib. I find it has a hard time keeping up with cursive writing. It has no trouble keeping up with printed writing but cursive gets ahead of the feed.

Mottishaw lists the Sailor Music at 1.2mm

    Platinum is listed at 1.1mm

Franklin Christoph just told me their music nib is a 1.9 (but it seems larger to me!).

I write with the Platinum music nibs all the time (cursive). I could never do that with the Franklin Christoph...

Music nibs vary a lot by brand and age... it's like saying do you like flex nibs? Some music nibs are quite thin; some are quite thick; some have flex; some are stiff as a nail.
I personally do use a Sailor music nib regularly, but it is no different than using a 1.1mm stub nib to me. I also use a Platinum C nib and a Lamy BB nib all the time at work.
Really it is a personal preference. If you typically like fatter, broader, wetter nibs then you will be fine... if however you prefer a Pilot UEF nib, then steer clear!

I have found this with my Sailor nib too. Thankfully, I don't use cursive much with music nibs.

I also have a Pilot and a Franklin Christoph, which is the largest by far at 1.9 but my writing is such that I can't use any of them for daily writing and I sure wish that I could because I adore their very wet lines and their ability to bring out every nuance in any ink. Shade and sheen to the max when possible. The way that they burn through a converter's worth of ink is pretty incredible though!

    Found the Targa pic.

Doesn't seem as enormous here as my claim, but it's labeled M, and I've had Medium Sheaffer italic nibs. Didn't have to adjust my handwriting with those. With this one, I definitely did, just as with the Sailor Music nib.

    Ink is probably Iro Ku-Jaku.

Is it a steel nib? If so there was a Targa based Calligraphy set and those nibs were marked S, M & B.

Dang, that is a shovel indeed! Thanks for showing it to us, SK.

I don't often consider the Targa's because the body is a bit too slim for my taste.
But if I see one with that nib, I'd be kicking myself if I don't try to get it.

I'm happy enough that this was a 'regular' Targa, and not the Slim version.

Okay, then the nib is almost certainly from a Targa Calligraphy set. They were interchangeable with regular Targas but IIRC only came in the black body. It was typical Sheaffer Calligraphy set; one body, three nibs, a half dozen or so cartridges in different colors, some lined paper and a Calligraphy made easy book.

The Sailor music nib is one of my favourites for writing on larger sheets of paper (A4). I love the size of letters it produces and the shading in the strokes. Of all music nibs I've tried (not that many), it's the one that appeals most to me.
