Hello all!
My name is Rameses, from Victoria, Canada. In the last 6 years I've rediscovered the joys of fountain pens, having abandoned them for ~10 years. Now that I've returned to them, I can't quite think why I gave them up at all. I've lurked here for a little while and this community has impressed me with its knowledge and willingness to share. I look forward to getting to know the community better and contributing, too!
Many thanks and all best wishes,
-R
For those who care to know more, a bit more about the fountain pens I have known (and will soon know):
The past
My first writing implement after pencils was a fountain pen, probably a Hero or a cheap Parker, and my school required that we use Royal Blue ink only. High school through to university saw me using ballpoints and it wasn't until the end of grad school that I found myself using a fountain pen (a friend's TWSBI 580) and falling in love all over again. Except this time I can use any colour I like!
The present
I'm using fountain pens more often now, taking notes, grading assignments etc. My go-to pen is a Conklin Duragraph (fine), though I always try to keep a Pilot Metropolitan (fine) ready to go as well. I do have and enjoy my Lamy Safari (1.1 mm). My usual ink of choice is Noodler's Generals of the Armies as I love the colour it dries to. I also quite like Diamine Quartz black and Scheaffer Skrip Turquoise. I also own bottles of Noodler's Black Swan in English Roses and DeArtramentis Mahatma Gandhi, but the former is feathers or shows through too much on my everyday papers and the latter is impractical, though beautiful, for everyday things.
The future
In the last few days I've bought from eBay a couple of Jinhao porcelain pens and a Baoer 051 as well. I have my eye on a Picasso pen and a Wing Sun 698 (or a TWSBI Eco if I'm feeling rich). And I'd like to try an iron gall ink and specifically KWZ Turquoise. As I'm running into a problem of too many pens and inks and not enough use for them, I'm signed up for InCoWriMo 2017 and am quite excited to write and receive letters!
