    Default Celluloid-friendly grey inks?

I have yet to try any sort of grey ink, and want to make sure I get something that I can enjoy in all my pens, including a certain 1950s Soennecken made of infamously fragile celluloid. Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri-same looks amazing--is it washable and well-behaved? Any suggestions would be great!

    Thanks!

I found it to be well behaved and flushed easily from pens.

It looks nice--a bit paler and darker than I was thinking. But if it's safe, I'll definitely consider it!

I don't think the choice of ink is going to have an impact on the longevity of your ill-fated celluloid Soennecken. Low humidity would be the better tactic, but that means no ink at all. Choices, choices. See: http://cool.conservation-us.org/jaic...-02-003_3.html

I realize now my wording was off. My concern is with staining and discoloration, not fragility.

A safe ink for vintage pens that has a grayish look is Organic Studio's Blue Merle. I use it often in my Vacumatic and it has worked out well.

Great! You've alerted me to this ink's existence, and I actually like that color quite a bit--it has the tonal ambiguity I think of with grey inks. The creator studied chemistry in college IIRC, so I certainly will have no problem trusting it!

Hate to say that, but every ink will discolour and darken your vintage celluloid over time - at least the clear parts.

It is a bit pricey, and after reading the description of OS Blue Merle on their site (it was specifically designed to be safe in celluloid pens), I'm convinced it is the best choice. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I'll update the topic when a bottle arrives.

The bottle I ordered from Anderson Pens has arrived! The pen it was intended for--my Soennecken 111--is in for repair (piston knob replacement) but I've just given it a try with my OMAS Extra vest pocket. As advertised, the ink is very harmless and wiped off the section easily with a dry tissue (the usual wet afterwash wasn't needed). My ink seems to have a little less blue tint than some of the pictures I see, but I absolutely love the degree of its subtlety. (alliteration not intended!) It also turns out to be very well-behaved on cheap paper--I am very pleased with its feathering resistance. To say the least, my first impressions are incredibly positive.
