The Taming of the Shrew 1929 - Sam Taylor
2nd talkie of Mary Pickford/ First one of Douglas Fairbanks. The only film the did together.

Surprisingly good, especially Douglas Fairbanks. Massive sets....

    We saw 'Taming'' Yazeh! Enjoyable.

Forgot to mention that The Tingler has several scenes inside a movie theater, and they are showing parts of Tol-able David. It was a highlight for me.

I keep jumping in when I think of anything... Yazeh mentioned a movie that was a re-shoot of an earlier film. Since we are crawling through an American International monster movie, it made me think of 1967's Attack of the Eye Creatures, a color film which is nearly a shot-for-shot remake of the 1957 black and white movie, Invasion of the Saucer Men.

    I've seen both. 😸

I watched it a few days ago, on this recommendation. Recognized a few themes borrowed from other Bogie films, but still good enough.

I seem to be watching many of movies from this thread. Especially the film noirs. Thanks, everyone!

I watched all three versions of the The Maltese Falcon:

    - 1931, pretty good, making allowance for film technique (and technology) of '31: https://ok.ru/video/3809016023732

    - 1936, with Bette Davis as the Mary Astor character. Terrible movie. Davis hated it. Satan Met a Lady: on Amazon, or at https://ok.ru/video/900486203906

    - Bogart and Mary Astor and the other greats.

Say, kids! If you want to be poisoned by a movie, then AIP's Phantom From 10,000 Leagues is for you! Horrible idiotic script, flaccid direction, comatose acting, and zero continuity all add up to one bitter little pill of a 1955 monster movie. It's so bad it is not even laughable.

One of the worst films I've seen, and I've seen a LOT of bad movies.

You want bad, try watching the new Jerry Seinfeld's new Netflix movie, Unfrusted. It starts OK, then it's turn into a script written by 4 teenagers high on cereals and nostalgia. After 15 minutes I stopped it

"Born to Kill" (1947), a noir with several deplorable characters...a fun watch.

The Judge (2014) with Robert Duvall and Robert Downey, Jr.
A generational clash, woven through a courtroom drama.
Duvall (93 years old now!) and Downey are excellent.

"The Man who knew Infinity" from 2015. Hollywoodized bio of Ramanujan (and his relationship with Hardy). Very good but not mathy enough to illustrate the unfathomable abilities of one of the most amazing minds to exist.

Sounds too bad even for me. 😹

Return of the Invisible Man, 1940, stars Vincent Price, who did not actually appear in the movie until two seconds before the end. Most of his work was done in the recording studio. Add to that some fine actors portraying a murderous lawman ('Shoot everyone on sight!') and an equally murderous nobleman ('Muahahaaa, I didn't do a thing, Vinny did!'), and you have a bad movie that is actually fun and entertaining.

Morning Glory 2010 - Rachel McAdams/ Harrison Ford / Diane Keaton, Quite awful.

And not related to the 1933 movie, with Katharine Hepburn, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. etc. Wish had watched the latter

How do you take a monster movie with a basically solid premise, an intriguing title, music by Wagner and Shostakovich, containing Bewitched's 'Darrin,' and ruin it?

Ohhh, maybe with acting a cigar store Indian could beat? Editing done by a psychotic monkey? Having nothing that anyone says or does make sense? Snail's pacing? Inappropriate attempts at comedy when an old man is being slaughtered? Puking up enormous buckets of exposition when the film is 99% over?

Then you get 1955's Beast With A Million Eyes. This has been a public service announcement.

That was one heck of a review. Though I have to admit having Wager and Shostakovich in the same movie is a give away, not mentioning Darrin and the title. That's something commander Charles Tucker III of the Enterprise would watch

I know it's not strictly a movie, but I've found 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet' again, after what, 40 years? - The superb BBC TV series from the early eighties. Brilliant characters and humour as only the Brits can do. (It's on youtube).
Jimmy Nail as 'Oz' is a standout, and if anyone wants to hear a WONDERFUL song about the awful tribulations of the working class in England back then... crucified by Thatcher & co, listen to 'Big River' by Jimmy Nail, (with Mark Knopfler accompanying on guitar.
Anyone with a heart who listens to the lyrics may need a box of tissues handy!
