Schwoops.....just picked up, last week a Visconti Portofino L.E. # 26 of 150 c2001, made exclusively for Fountain Pen Hospital by Visconti. The clip is the real special piece on this pen as it is a piece of history, so to speak. I'm downstairs, when I go upstairs I'll get the clip info and come down and write here about it. I'll also get the pictures of the display cases.

Ok....The Deal on the Portofino L.E. Clip is; The Sterling Silver clip is meant to Represent the 1992 America's Cup Challenger ll Moro di Venezia, riding a wave. The clip was designed by Visconti specifically for the sailor's of that great sailboat. The Italian Challenger did not win the America's Cup in 1992, but the clip design was authorized for use on later pens such as the Voyager and Uffizi series.

Be careful with those pens on the top shelf. If the roller-blind catches them when opening, you're in trouble! Unfortunately I know from experience.
Do I see an I Castoni Tiger Eye in the left bottom drawer (2nd from front)? How do you like it?

    Cheers,
    Peter

Fellow Visconti user here. I've got a Homo Sapiens Steel Age and it is my goto pen for all occasions. The 23kt Palladium nib is the best I've ever used. Love it!

Plan to pick up the Steel Age soon. I have Bronze Age and have let the bronze petina and it looks twice as lovely as the day it arrived. I agree with you, this is the best nib - in my use of fountains so far absolutely nothing compares.

When I was at Paradise Pens in Richmond, i tested a Montblanc, the Visconti, and a Monttegrappa. The Visconti was the best by far.

I have four Viscontis and all are nearly always inked:

Homo Sapiens with a 1.3mm italic nib tweaked by Mike Matsuyama
Van Gogh Maxi Starry Night with a custom ground italic nib by Pendleton Brown
Art Nouveau also with a custom ground italic nib by Pendleton Brown
Michelangelo (black and rose gold) with a medium nib

I'm also planning on picking up a Metropolis Gordian Knot at some point.

i'd like to see one of those Gordian knot pens sometimes. The retractable piston filler entrances me!

I have a plain gunmetal Metropolis. While the retractable piston filler is a really cool concept, I find the overall mechanism to be a bit fiddly. For me, that's both an attraction and a detriment.

I don't have a Visconti but a fellow in our local pen club has some amazing limited edition's from the brand. I love the Wall street though having now seen that Copernicus that has changed. I love the celluloid they use as it reminds me of an old Vac I once owned! Would love to try the palladium nib one day, I keep hearing so many good things about them!
Mont Blanc Alfred Hitchcock,Mont Blanc 149, Montegrappa Historia, Parker Duofold senior special (1927 vintage), Sheaffer imperial 777,Parker 51 special,Stipula Tuscan dreams piston, Stipula Tuscan dreams Ti flex nib,1944 Vac 51.

Planning a pen shop visit on Tuesday. Should I get a Rembrandt (the most I'm willing to stretch to), A Faber Castell emotion, or save a lot of money and get a Studio?

I suppose my question is: Is the Rembrandt a good enough representative of the Visconti experience to be worth spending the extra money?
