    Default Daily Carry Thread

Inspired by the front page poll, I thought it might be fun to see what we're all carrying around, FP wise.

    I'll update with pics later, but in my Nomadic PE-10 I have;

Lamy Vista EF with Lamy Blue
Rotring Esprit (telescopic) with Diamine Dark Brown
    Parker Jotter with Quink Black
    Schneider Base with Diamine Teal
Baoer 517 with unbranded black cartridge.

In the pen loop of my organiser, I have a Pelikan Steno, loaded with Diamine Emerald.

    I wanna play!

I don't know if they count toward a Daily Carry total since they stay in my office and I work from home, but here is what I have inked up and ready as of this minute:

Delta Dolcevita Oversized with Visconti Sepia
Edison Custom Pearl in Red/Black Ebonite with Visconti Sepia
Edison Custom Pearl in Antique Marble Acrylic with Waterman South Sea Blue
Modern Aurora 88 with Aurora Black
TWSBI Diamond 540 with Waterman South Sea Blue

You should have caught me 48 hours ago before I flushed the other eight pens that were also inked and ready.

I usually have around 12 inked, too. It's a bit crazy. :P Right now I have:
Noodler's flex pen with Noodler's BSB
Esterbrook SJ 9450 nib with Herbin Lie de The
Waterman 32V with Herbin Lie de The
Parker Vacumatic Azure Debutante with Herbin Poussiere de Lune
Sheaffer Targa with Herbin Perle Noire
Kaweco Sport with a Lamy Green - Waterman Black mix (No offense meant to anyone but Lamy Green turend out to be too pale for me).
Hero 442 with a Quink Red-Quink Black mix
Esterbrook (aero type?) 1551 nib with Pelikan Royal Blue (I don't like this color. Again, I find it too pallid so I'm planning to give away the rest of what's in my bottle.)
2 Sheaffer No Nonsense pens, (Italic M & Italic F), Montblanc Oyster Grey & Herbin Vert Olive
Mabie Todd Swan Minor lever filler, Herbin Vert Olive

I'm trying to empty some and flush them out.

    last few days it's been:
Noodler's Ahab Flex with Private Reserve Black Magic Blue
Lamy Al-Star (Aluminum) F with PR Ebony Green
Lamy Safari Black F with PR Ebony Green
Bulow x750 Black with PR Ebony Green

the ahab needs to be cleaned out. it's been belching on me a bit. I'll probably be putting a B nib on one of the Lamys, it seems a bit like a redundant redundancy carrying 2 F nibs around. The Bulow continues to impress me as a totally competent daily writer.

John for the past week I've been toting around the following:

    • Lamy 2000 (medium) with Aurora Black
    • Parker 51 Aerometric with Rohrer & Klingner Solferino
    • Noodler's Ahab with Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris

The two R&H inks were in this month's Ink Drop from Goulet Pens. I really like the Solferino and have ordered a bottle of it.

I realised, looking at my list that I, effectively, carry two EFs - the Steno, and the Vista. It works for me, because I use the fine nibbed pens in a pocket planner that has limited space - the different inks help differentiate tasks, to dos &c.

TWSBI 540 F with Aurora Blue

That's a beautiful mix of old and new, Dan - I'm especially jealous of those Vacumatics(?)

Dan thanks for posting that pic. I immediately showed it to my wife, explaining that I'm not nearly as nuts as some of the FP folks are! :-)

Hey BK! That's the Franklin-Christoph 20-Pen Zippered Case. It also comes in a 40-Pen version.

    The FPGeeks post is here.

I like the look of that case! I already get enough stares carrying 12 to a meeting (never know what I will want to write with) so I am not sure I can take the scrutiny of carrying 20.

Oh Tracy Lee! You should walk in to a meeting with the:

    42 Pen Briefcase!

LOL, I can't deny how fun that would be. I opened my case once and a man sitting next to me stared. Then he looked at his iPad and iPhone in front of him. Then back to my case. Then up at me with a little grin "let me guess. Those are worth more than these two combined." I smiled back, thinking of my answer as the double entendre that it is. "Yes. Way more."

My daily carry is zero, because I write book reviews in my off hours and therefore do most of my fountain pen writing at home in the evenings. I don't have to write much for work, but I have an assortment of fineliners (Stabilo 88s, Le Pens) that serve well enough.

However, at home I have SEVENTEEN pens currently inked. I need to flush some, I know, but I just can't help thinking, "Oh, what color would I like to see now?" when I clean one out. This leads to having the same ink in a pen for a month, though I try to exercise them all regularly. Also, I totally don't get how so many people have the same color in several pens simultaneously! Anyways, here's what I have. All cheap:

    1. Sheaffer School Pen #1, fine = Sheaffer orange cartridge
    2. Sheaffer School Pen #2, medium = Visconti blue cartridge (this one takes international standard)
    3. A Random Drug Store Pen = Diamine Damson
    4. Sheaffer 100 Special Edition, fine = Sheaffer burgundy cartridge (a precious resource! I only have 19 left!)
    5. Platinum Preppy #1, medium = Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Bordeaux
    6. Platinum Preppy #2, medium = J. Herbin Gris Nuages (using a snazzy adapter for international cartridges)
    7. Platinum Preppy #3, fine = Platinum Blue-Black cartridge
    8. Hero 616 = Little Blue Box, a custom mix from FPN that attempts to replicate the color of a Tiffany's box
    9. Lanbitou #1 = Iroshizuku Kon-Peki
    10. Lanbitou #2 = Sailor Jentle Pęche
    11. Pilot 78G, fine = Iroshizuku Chiku-Rin
    12. Jinhao X750, medium = an old, reconstituted Montblanc brown cartridge (Possibly coffee? I don't know.)
    13. Serwex 100 (eyedropper from India) = Pelikan Violet
    14. Sheaffer School Pen #3, vintage 304 nib = Sheaffer King's Gold cartridge
    15. Sheaffer School Pen #4, vintage 305 nib = Sheaffer Red cartridge (made in Slovenia)
    16. Sheaffer School Pen #5, fine = Ecclesiastical Stationery Supplies Registrar's Ink (an amazing ink)
    17. Sheaffer No-Nonsense Calligraphy pen, Italic M = Sheaffer Jet Black

I'm dreaming of a piston-filler, like a TWSBI 840 (or the cheaper Reform 1745) and am envious of Dan's Vacumatics!

    Hi swanjun!

Wow - that's quite a list. Very nice, indeed. I don't think I've ever had 17 pens inked simultaneously. But that's only because I dislike flushing pens, so I try to keep the number of inked up pens to 10 or fewer.

Now, if there were a Fountain Pen Flushing service, there's no telling how many inked up pens I'd keep on hand =)

    Hi,

I am penniless student, so I only own rather cheap pens. The inked ones are at the moment:

    1.) Reform 1745 - fine - Pelikan Brilliant black => see 2.)
2.) Reform 1745 - fine - Waterman Havana => I will stop using these two. They are too light, rather scratchy, and since I am left-handed...Well, 12000 micro-mesh is on the way, so maybe I can smooth them a bit (= grinding practise).
3.) Lamy Logo - 1.5 nib - Pelikan fluorescent highlighter ink => makes a nice highlighter. Good ink/pen-combo
4.) Lamy Logo - mk (=medium-italic) - Waterman Havana => good nib for overhand/hook-lefties, but otherwise nothing special. Will stop using it
    5.) Lamy Logo - 1.1 nib - Waterman Havana => good ink/pen-combo, lefty-friendly. An EDC-keeper
6.) Tombow Object (matt black) - fine - Waterman Havana => nice wet line, especially with Waterman Havana. A bit scratchy on the backside -> a job for micro-mesh. A rather heavy pen, but has a good feel and look
7.) Kaweco Sport Classic (demonstrator) - extra fine - Pelikan Königsblau (=brilliant blue) => smooooth, good fine nib for a lefty. Awaits its conversion to an eyedropper
[8.) Kaweco Sport Classic (black, chess) - ink roller (~b) - Pelikan Königsblau => I use it for signing. Skipped a bit at the beginning, but now it runs smoothly. I still need to get a good black ink, possibly Noodler's.]

I will drop 1.), 2.), and 4.), as eight pens are definitely too many for my taste.

And then I need to save (a lot of) money for a Sailor Naginata Concord, as it is hard to write Japanese with normal western nibs...

p.s.: Waterman Havana is a great ink for me (left-handed), as it dries fast - even on clairefontaine.

    Hi Pinkys.Brain!

Thanks for sharing your great list of inked up pens. The Naginata Concord! I've only seen pictures. I'd sure like to take one for test drive.

Thanks for the tip regarding Waterman Havana and lefties. I'm a righty myself, but I'll be sure to recommend the Havana.

    =) Eric
