Default EFNIR: Büroservice Bergmann Blaufliessende Eisengallustinte

Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Büroservice Bergmann Blaufliessende Eisengallustinte

This is review #227 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Cleaning was mostly quick and easy, but where the ink dried, it needs pen flush or rubbing. Pen flush seemed to work better. It stained my cartridge, and may stain plastic that's soft or has a textured surface. It easily came off parts that were smooth / polished (with water for wet ink or pen flush for dried ink).

Errata: Neglected to mark the dry time: 3 seconds. First instance of "copy paper" should read "absorbent paper"! I should have said that I recommend it for *wet* nibs. It's a bit frustrating to have to get it flowing again after brief pauses.

    Find it here: https://www.kalligraphie-shop.com/ep...619/Categories

Zoomed in photo (A little too saturated and not quite dark enough.)

Screenshot (Text is a little too dark and de-saturated.)

Scan of Completed Review (Color is fairly close.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Colors are close.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 223µm. With 227 inks measured, the average line width is 295µm.) (Holy fine line, Batman! Scale is positioned too far left, but I accounted for that when calculating line width.)

Microscope image (100x. Interesting pattern. Taken after only one day. Actual color is similar to the left, but a little greener.)

Microscope image (100x. Looks like an aerial photo of tracks in the desert. )

Microscope image (100x. Just liked the pattern.)

Microscope image (100x. Liked the pattern.)

    Water Test Results

Chromatogram (There's a yellowish color above the blues (you can just see it in the photo), and the pink edging is more obvious to my eyes.)

    Previous Review: Diamine Meadow.

You're very welcome! I liked it, too. Yazeh's review has comments from the maker, which is even better. This is a good ink for anyone who wants a super-fine line.

@LizEf, what an excellent review So detailed, plus those amazing microscopic images.... Did the ink turn black on copy /absorbent paper? It happened to me.

There is indeed something wrong with the world's magic when a chroma looks like 70s mica laminate.

    Listen to Essri.

Thanks so much for these continuing reviews and saga. If I was interested in iron gall inks, this might be the one!

Thanks, Yazeh! As you can tell, I thoroughly enjoyed my trip into the micro world. May have gotten a little carried away... The darkest spots might be black - it's really hard to tell - it could be sheen (on the copy paper, it's sheen), but the lighter parts of each stroke are still blue - perhaps a little darker now.

That is bizarre. Makes sense, though - as long as the chickens don't eat the silkworms! Sunday night (or Saturday?) I dreamed about someone I haven't even thought of in eons. No clue why. It was very strange. (This is one of the reasons I like chocolate - it gives me vivid / longer / more intricate dreams that I tend to remember more.)

First of all, thank you Liz for the sensational ink review! Especially for Sailor Kenshin I looked for the magic stuff again for comparison. This was for dip pen (here I had it in the SWAN PEN) that flowed blue-violet and the lines were impossible for the Nachtblau. I called her "Mary Shelley" (because 2018 was 200 years of "Frankenstein").

    But nobody wanted them.

No one wanted the blue-violet ink? That's sad. I would have thought that color would be popular - all the more for the name... (Am I understanding that correctly? You named the ink Mary Shelley?)

Yes, that was the last ink I made and the only one with a name. Blue-violet was just the flow color, the ink turned black on the paper.

Nice. Seems very appropriate. Sorry it wasn't a success. People are hard to predict.

I think the trick is to give them what they need under the pretense of giving them what they want.

(Apparently I can't just smile at your reply, I must have at least three characters in my response, so:

    1. Mary Shelley - since she's already been mentioned. I'll bet she was quite the character.
    2. Frankenstein - because he really is a character.
    3. Frankenstein's monster - who was also a character and I'm too lazy to get more creative to satisfy this arbitrary 3-character rule.)

Liz, what do I have to read elsewhere for senseless ß discussions? As an investigation into the durability of iron gall letterings with normal file use, I'll show you the whole label background.(https://fpgeeks.com/forum/attachment...8&d=1672954578)

You can see that approximately in Mary's time, there was no letter ß in German writing at all, but a ligature sz, it's only a matter of time.

Well, I could see that if I could decipher that alien script... Is that an sz at the end of the second word in the line that starts with a D - second line on the page, after the big gap - first line looks like it's just something and the date... Or maybe that's an "rg"? Could be a "y" at the end. I would be terrible at transcribing old German records...
