    Default EFNIR: Diamine Sepia

Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Sepia

This is review #249 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: On day 4 and again during the review, the pen stopped writing despite plenty of ink still in it. I flossed the tines and it was fine after that. I have no idea why it stopped. Flossing didn't bring out any obvious chunks, just some ink... Cleaning was quick and easy.

Since it dried in 9 seconds during testing and the 30 second mark was barely smeared during the review, I decided to go with 35 seconds for the dry time... Make of it what you will. While An Ink Guy called it wet, my experience and the line width both suggest the ink flows dry. Perhaps batch variations? Or a case where surface tension overruled viscosity?

Zoomed in photo (Color is close but a little too orange. Shading isn't as strong as the picture suggests.)

Screenshot (Color is very close, but a little too dark. (Probably the most accurate image.))

Scan of Completed Review (Color is a little too red, but close.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are close to what I saw on paper.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 270µm. With 249 inks measured, the average line width is 296µm.)

Microscope image (100x. Colors were a bit more vibrant in real life.)

Microscope image (400x. Closeup of "cluster" near the center of the 100x image. Not quite as vibrant as real life, but close.)

    Great review
I love those vibrant orange microscopic images, a harbinger of fall in the middle our heat wave
They should have to Faber Castell instead of Castle? But they don't choose their adventures do they?
    Sorry you had flow issues.
No squeaky sound effects? I guess Klaw is napping or biking

Thanks for making our Tuesday's so much fun

My thinking exactly (well, the fall part - I don't remember the weather when I was recording that, but it's not bad at the moment).

Nope, they only get to choose how to react to what I throw in their path.

Thank you. Guess even Diamine have to have a difficult ink or two.

Don't remember, but I know he did sleep through one or two recording sessions. Hoping he'll do that today, too.

Yes, I forgot this was Tuesday. It feels like Monday, Moaning Monsters and all.

I did have this ink at one time, but I wasn't nuts about it. Not like I am for the story! Headless skeletons? Aiyeeeee! 🙀 And the Orange Ocean again, this time with a brain growing. This is top-notch storytelling.

Liz, thanks so much for your amazing reviews. And say hello to King Klaw. 😊

You're most welcome! Klaw says, "I deign to bid you good morning, but only because my tummy is full and I'm lying in the sun. Otherwise, I would demand you offer treats with your greeting or suffer the wrath of Klaw!"

My thanks too Liz for another fab review - not least because I had no idea what day of the week it was until now...

I like Diamine Sepia - I use it a lot, though to be fair in much wider nibs - and I've never had any problems with flow or lubrication. It's definitely not a sepia though. It sits next to Raw Sienna in my Diamine swatch book.

As for our poor adventurers, the anticipation of evil just sounds too horrid. They must deserve a break soon, surely?

I'm starting to imagine the text on my tombstone: "Thanks to her, we always knew when it was Tuesday."

Glad to hear it does well in broader nibs - it's one of those colors that really shows its best when there's a lot of it.

Last night I finally wrote the climax of this story arc. I'm afraid our one-scene-per-week format will keep the tension going a while, but hopefully it will be worth it.

    Hello,

This sleeping all day lark is starting to get on my pip.
    It's Wednesday again. GRRRRRRRR

Awesome as expected. Never to disappoint. Thanks Liz.

I shall inform Klaw that he's no longer allowed to sleep all day. I expect it to have zero impact. (Klaw is my semi-new kitten.)

    Well.

Turns out I still have this ink. I must not have hated it all that much! 😹

Will try it in a fude or something this autumn.
