Pelikan Tradition M215 - Rings

It arrived this week and I am testing it with Diamine Ochre. I like its slightly weighty feel compared to my other Pelikan's the EF nib is smooth but I think the black nib is going to look good in this pen as well as my 140.

I love the rings around the barrel on this one and the nib is beautiful. It reminds me of vintage nibs, simple and elegant. I must get a Pelikan one day. I wrote with a friends M600 the other day and it wrote beautifully.

The M600 I got writing again for a coworker was awesome. I can only hope to get one in the future. I do think I may get a two toned gold nib from the M400.

If you were starting out with little knowledge of Pelikans which model do you think would be a good one to start with. I must admit I do like the look of the vintage green ones, I think the 100-140's?

I lucked out and got a 140 for very little. I bought it thinking it was a 120 but knowing something was not quite right with it based on what I found online. They are smaller pens that feel more comfortable posted, at least to me. They are also very light. I like the M215 for it's slight weightiness and it is just slightly longer so I don't have to post if I don't want to. If I had the money and because I have tried the M600, I would have gone for that straight away in a two tone 14k broad stub. Don't get me wrong. I probably would have ended up with my current lineup of Pels even if I had gone for the 600 first.

@Ian. Try one. You will not be disappointed. The older ones, like the 120 and 140, regularly show up in the FPN classifieds, even with interesting nibs like OM or OB, if you like that of course. And FPN-member Christof recently found a whole tin of old pens at an antique shop, including several of these Pelikans. He appears to have a good reputation for fixing and restoring these pens and is now offering several for sale.
But seeing how much you like your Hitchcock, I think you will end up with an M800, size-wise .

When I get my M200, I will let you know. I would think the 215 is just slightly heavier since it has the metal barrel sleeve.

I had my first person ask to barrow the 215 today. I cringed but I did not have my ballpoint with me. It came out of it unscathed but I did give the person a bit of instruction. They were a little surprised at my "calligraphy" pen.

You bet it would! The M800 is the best size for my hand, it always writes smoothly, it is well built, they have the smoothest pistons in pendom and it really is the quintessential Pelikan. If I would be limited to just one fountain pen (God forbid!) I would probably go for my green-striated M800.
