Default Ink case round two my second round project

    Round two

For sometime I have been thinking about an ink stand I have problems filling my pens from the bottle.

I saw this suggested on another forum however it is £80 +vat + shipping

I decided to make my own version I think my test case is a little on the large side but I can always make a smaller one if this works out.

I started with a cylinder unfortunately I forgot to mark out the stitching channels before I glued the cylinder together just making things hard for myself.

I know need to work out how I am going to make a wedge for the inside to angle the ink bottle Time for a cup of tea and a think

Maybe you don't need a wedge but a bean bag to hold the ink bottle (of whatever shape) steady?

Now imagine if it was on video! Assuming Michael is as engaging as his photography

The videos you posted of that other gentlemen were wonderful.
"What are moon-letters?" asked the hobbit full of excitement. He loved maps, as I have told you before; and he also loved runes and letters, and cunning handwriting, though when he wrote himself it was a bit thin and spidery.

Nigel is a great guy and a Master Craftsman I don't have the same level of skill and it takes me a lot longer to make each piece.
If I was trying to video it as well it would take forever, I also have difficulty using my right hand which means I use clamps and straps which would get in the way.

I hope that you will be happy with pictures.

Alc3261 as ever I searched for a suitable bean bag without success so I have ordered some filling and will make my own.

    Thanks

    Michael

Here is an update of the progress so far I have fitted the top and smoothed the edges

    IMG_8423_1 by my0771, on Flickr

Here is the roll of masking tape I used to form the shape

    IMG_8426_1 by my0771, on Flickr

I should have marked out and punched the stitching holes before gluing it all together although thinking about it this one is too large at 110 mm in diameter and 80 mm high I don't have a lot of ink at the moment, So I may just leave it here and start a smaller one to better suite my needs.

    Thanks for looking

    Michael

I've been thinking about an ink case for some time. Your design is entirely different from the one I have in mind, so this is going to be very interesting!

    Hi Polyhistor
I look forward to seeing what you make, I am afraid my ideas were inspired by our friend Nigel Armitage I am learning box stitch from his latest video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2yg...0&noredirect=1

So it will be a square box for me next

The filling has arrived and my wife was kind enough to make a liner for the beans I bought a nice piece of yellow nappa leather (full price OMG ) for the bean bag.

I have had injections into the tendons in my right hand and left elbow today so it will be a day or so before they are moving again.

I was thinking about a nice dark fabric for the bean bag (more mouldable than leather around the bottle). Say black or dark blue twill?

    Thanks Alc3261

As this one is for me I will go with the leather if anyone else wants one then the material will be an option

I have finished applying the dye and have added the inner piece to hold the lid in place

    IMG_8537_1 by my0771, on Flickr

The lovely leather it is sitting on will be made into the cushion for the interior

    IMG_8543_1 by my0771, on Flickr

It just needs a few more coats of wax and a few hours of sewing

    Thanks

    Michael

The yellow has gone from the outside to the inside

    IMG_8627_1 by my0771, on Flickr

The case is not complete it still needs to be sewn together
