I actually prefer Diamine Safari because I can see green shading in it. I think MbRG looks grey like the sample I made does. Maybe it's just the screen. I would rather pay the price of Diamine Safari than pay some outrageously high price for MbRG.

I think it's the screen; here, with a sample in front of me, the Montblanc ink is a lovely dark conifer green - sometimes known as Connaught green, - rather like the D-type Jaguars that ran at Le Mans in the 1950s.

I have 4 unused MbRG cartridges, plus a partly used one in my 147. It definitely writes like a dark greyish black, similar to the mixture I made. However, it's a F nib so any green shading is hard to see.

I had forgotten all about Diamine Salamander. I even thought I bought a 30ml bottle, but it was a different shade. It's probably an age related thing.

Down to my last 1/4 bottle of MB-RG...
Have found myself likeing Noodler's Zhivago, Sequoia, and Diamine Graphite.
Zhivago is closest to RG of these IMO...

(I have not tried Safari yet)

I have found a couple more inks that are very similar to MbRG.

Bung Box Dandyism and Sailor Kobe #1 Rokko Green. There are comparisons to MbRG if you do a Google search

These inks aren't cheap but they are a darn sight cheaper than MbRG.

Sadly I don't have either of these inks to do a comparison with my MbRG cartridge.

Sorry I dare not mention the other place on here because when I mentioned that there was another FP forum on the other place I got a warning from a moderator and I was accused of "actively encouraging gossip and drama"

Ha ha! yes I have heard tales of that sort. In my view it is a credit to this forum that the reverse is most unlikely to be the case.

I have made a mix that is very, very close to Montblanc Racing Green

I am not mean - here's the formula I mixed for my experiment not very accurately with a syringe:

    Diamine Salamander 1.25ml
    Diamine Sherwood Green 1.25ml
    Pilot Black - about 0.8ml

    It really is very close.

EDIT: now it has dried a little more, I should say just a touch more black is needed - maybe even an equal third. I'll try again soon.

2nd Edit I tried more black - but it now dries greener!

The next time I think 3 parts Salamander 1 part each black and Sherwood. Maybe instead of black i'll try Eclipse! This ink business is the road to insanity I fear as if pens were not bad enough.

I don't want anybody wasting their expensive ink folllowing me on this; I don't understand why adding more black has made it greener!

Funny thing is the first sample has dried as a fair approximation - just a fraction lighter. Now it doesn't work!

I will try again, this is starting to get a grip on me: next time I propose Salamander, Safari and Eclipse. I am hoping that the very deep purple in the Eclipse might kill some of the grass-greeness I am getting now.

    Best wishes from the madhouse.

    Thanks for that.

The problem as I have remarked before is that at least on my screen, these dark greens look more or less dark grey to me.

I have just reviewed yesterday's efforts and I am a bit baffled as in some cases the ink looks closer whilst in others it is much paler. It occurs to me that perhaos I should not be mixing Pilot's ink with Diamine products.

It's all very unscientific, as my syringe rushes "home" (the last ml or so) last night spraying me with ink! I need a calibrated eye-dropper really.

Anyway I shall have another bash: next approach will be Safari and /or Salamander and Eclipse I think.

Meanwhile Laura's green ink sample has arrived. I have already thoroughly cleaned one pen and written a line. Another pen to be cleaned too. So I shll be focussing on this today (plus a lot of pens to work on as well as what I call "life" to deal with).

I know the problem is the screen. I don't know if it's adjustable.

my MbRG cartridges contain ink that is very dark grey almost black, and they are definitely MbRG cartridges.

You are lucky to have your sample to play with anyway.
