Yes. Never heard of him, but he was pretty good! I think I was a bit to harsh when I said, "at least she sounds real." I actually like listening to her once in a while. But that style is not my favorite.

Thanks glad you liked it! Did the link take you to the start of the concert? I am still trying to figure out how to link to a YouTube video. The whole concert is about an hour and a half. I'd link to just one number but those "singles" aren't in High Def and the vocal is not as good as this long version with the High Def.

Just in case anyone is curious...Robin Trower was the original lead with Procol Harum from 1967 thru 1971 then went solo. He is probably the best lead guitar in the rock idiom ever. And has only gotten better with time. He plays "Too Rolling Stoned" at the start of every concert since he began solo. So I've heard the different renditions over the past 30 years. He is just now beginning to get really really good! He's learned what to leave out. And what to expand. He's turned rock guitar into a classical music art form. He is just simply the best at what he does, period.

Hadn't noticed this thread before. My listening is all over the map: while my profession is classical percussion, I've done most everything 'drumming' related over the years. Anyway, for tonight, I've been listening to a wonderful new CD that one of my younger orchestral colleagues has done - the Bach Cello suites (3 of them) on double bass. Here's a nice vid he did for the launch:

Funny thing is, I've been a Vampire Weekend fan from the first record, but it was my son who made sure I got this new one today, on the release day.

Right now, I'm listening to one of my remedial students sigh, groan, & make excuses why he is chronically unable to write 2 complete paragraphs on one of several verses in the book of Proverbs.

Musically, however, before school I was listening to Gorecki's Symphony #3. It ranges from subaudible bass rumblings to arias that will rattle your teeth, crack thin glass, and break your heart without ever understanding a word being sung. It is an incredibly powerful and incomparably sad piece of music. It is my 'default' when Mozart's Requiem is too perky.

There was a massive announcement in the world of extreme metal today as Angela Gossow stepped down as lead vocalist of Arch Enemy to focus on family and band management. This had a ripple effect as Arch Enemy asked Alissa White-Gluz, the lead singer, of The Agonist to takeover. Alissa accepted and stepped down as lead singer of The Agonist who then selected a relatively unknown Vicky Psarakis to be their new vocalist. It will be interesting to see how things shape up. So in the honor of Angela and Alissa, I'm listening to some of their classic songs. I'm going to miss Angela vocals. She pioneered a style of vocals that was for a long time a male only affair. We'll have to see how Vicky fits in on vocals with the Agonist.

If you check out Epica and like that style of music then check out the other two bands in the 'holy trinity' of Symphonic metal, Nightwish and Within Temptation. I'd also check out Therion which grew out of the same Swedish Extreme metal scene as Archenemy but branched out into a very operatic style tinged with the occult.

I went to the Delain, Sabaton, Night wish concert on Tuesday at the Warfield. It was an awesome show with bands that need to be seen live. So I've been listening to the music from the show all week.

Delain opened the show. They played "We are the Others to Close"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lZGhh41W9k&feature=youtu.be

Sabaton was next. I was not very familiar with them before the show. They were quite the revelation. They rocked the house and did two cool things. They brought a 16 year old kid on stage and had the kid stand on stage for the closer and had him strum the guitars. They also paid tribute to the "Greatest Generation" and their sacrifice in WWII. Their song "Primo Victoria" was second to last and honored those who fought and died on D-Day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5_vifEPaAE&feature=youtu.be

Then there was Nightwish. They were so much more epic and powerful live than on the studio recording. With Floor Jansen as the new lead singer, they were able to cover both the new songs off the latest album and classics that they have not played live for over a decade.

This was taken from the show during my favorite song off the new album. This is what it is like to stand at the front. I was standing in roughly the same spot on the other side of the stage. I could not get a decent shot because it was too crowded on my end of the stage.

There is no substitute for live music. I went to the Dragonforce and Kamelot show last night. It was another epic concert as a lot of my favorite bands are making their rounds in the US ahead of European festival season.
It is about the brotherhood of metal. No matter your walk of life, you are bound by the common love of the same music. Even though I don't know many of these people very well, I see at every concert and you bond with total strangers. Not unlike pens.
