Happy day :)

Can someone tell me what Targa model this is? Thanks.

Edit: I think it's a 1001xg Classic.

I can't help but want to help you celebrate the discovery :)

It's an 1001XG or XGS, In your picture it looks like the slim model but that may be simply an artifact of the image. Can you tell us the width of the pen?

Thank you for your help. The length, capped, is 135mm. The diameter at widest point is 11mm. The nib unit is 60mm long (from tip of nib to end of the metal threads)
I might be wrong, as I don't know much about the Targa at all, but I thought the slim model wasn't introduced until the early 1980s? I bought my pen in 1978.

Sounds like the standard width (just XG) then.

It's a Classic. The Slimline has no collar next to the screw threads on the nib unit: Classic and Slimline (http://www.sheaffertarga.com/technical%20info/classic%20and%20slim%20size.html)

One of the first fountain pens I bought, if not the first, was a Target Classic in the early 90s. One of my favorite writers. Mine isn't as nice as this pen though. Congratulations!
