Just a little announcement before the actual review. I have opened my own blog and will be posting my reviews there first. After a few days, I will post the reviews to the forum. My blog and the full set of pictures can be found at http://inktronics.posterous.com/

Thank you for reading.

Today's post is self sponsored and I have no relationship with the seller of the pen.

Nice review, KI! Do you post the pen when you use it, or is that impractical, given its size?
I don't own an MB149 but I've seen plenty at our pen club meetings and in stores---it's a huge fountain pen!
Glad to hear that the Jinhao 159 wasn't a disappointment and thanks for the info re: the nib width. Very useful :)

Oh, and congrats on your new blog; I have it bookmarked ;)

Well done, as usual KI. Looking forward to your blog. Good luck, I've had a few over the years and it gets hard to keep ip.

I dont usually post and while I do check if a pen is postable this one is too big for my hand to post.

Thank you.

Great review, it is good to see that Jinaho, getting some attention.

Agree with the others - great review. I also have one on my eBay watch list, and it's been there for a while; this may well push me over the edge... :-)

This is the first Jinhao I own that I am debating on doing anything to the nib.

The Jihao 159 exemplifies the traditional classic cigar fountain pen. Nice and glossy too. Where is Darth ?
What size nib does it have looks M tending to B. The Diamine seems to suit the nib well.

Congratulations on your Blog too.

Bogon, it is labeled a B. I would put it between a Western M and B so, good guess. , Darth took the day off.:)

KI, am I correct in thinking that this pen only comes in a M nib?

It is an Asian B. It is the only size I have seen to date. You should be able to swap in a Knox nib from xfountainpens.com if you want to try different sizes.

I ended up with 2 - one is great, the other less so. So, in my first attempt at nib grinding, i put it to my old oilstone. The nib now has lots of "tooth"... :-)

I shall look at the Knox replacements (thanks for the tip).

To be fair it's still quite usable even after my crude attempts, just not as smooth as I'd like.

What you need are some girly manicure tools to do the final smoothing. Don't be ashamed---Richard Binder uses them.

True. The girly buff sticks are the final part of the process.

Cool - thanks for the tips, guys. Off to raid the daughter's cosmetics now... :-)
