The Merlin pens were marketed and designed especially for The Netherlands in the early 1950's. Parts were made in Germany and then sent to Amsterdam where they were assembled. Many different models were available at the time, such as the 'Elegant', the 'Osmi', the small 'Merlina' and the even smaller 'Lady'. One of the most popular models was the '33'. Also a small pen, we would consider a 'ladies pen' now, but in that time the Dutch users seemed to like small pens, men as well as women, for a reason I cannot find out in this modern times where fountain pen lovers seem to like much bigger pens.
Many colors exist in this model, one of the reasons they are sought after and collectible. Very rarely mint pieces show up nowadays and to find N.O.S. and boxed specimens is quite exceptional!

Although the pens I offer here are N.O.S. and in near mint condition, the condition of the boxes you can see is not 100%, but one can expect that after storage for more than 50 years!

I acquired these pens from a fountain pen friend in the Netherlands. He found a nice lot in an old forgotten stock from a former stationary shop that closed many years ago. He offered them to me to help me complete my already quite large collection of Merlins. Some of the colors in the '33' range were double, so I will offer these to you now (There will be a another, red '33' in a separate posting).

If you search for 'Merlin Pens' on Google you'll find a lot of info, especially on the Fountain Pen Network site. Don't believe the urban legend about thousands of them buried in the ground somewhere in the south of France during WWII. It's Bogus. Andy Lambrou's story about buying large quantities from the liquidation stock is true!
The pens I present here most probably originate from regular shop stock before the liquidation of the firm.
