There is one brand of vintage pens in my collection I am particularly fond of: UNION
I love my Unions because
a): they are beautiful pens with an amazing quality,
b): they are genuine Dutch made and
c): the factory where they were made was located less than 1 km of the place where I live now.
The actual factory closed in 1970 and the factory buildings were demolished in 1984, to make place for new houses.
The ‘ Union Vulpen Fabriek’ in The Hague existed from ca. 1927 until the late 1960’s when it was liquidated. Apart from some very small local other firms in The Netherlands, it was practically the only ‘real’ Dutch fountain pen factory, where all the designing, the production of the parts, the assembly and the marketing and wholesale was done ‘in house’. Union made high end quality pens, mainly in celluloid, following the classic pre WWII German design traditions. For the standards of that time the Union pens could be compared with the quality and standards of famous brands such as Osmia, Faber Castell, Pelikan, Kaweco and Montblanc. Besides the trade mark Union they made pens with the brand names Marvel, Marvelette, Winston, Torca and some more sub labels. Because of the relatively small scale production and the selling that was limited to the Dutch market only, the brand was and is practically unknown outside of The Netherlands.
For sale here is a lovely little ladies size Marvel pen, made round 1957 in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Notice the factory tool marks right from the Marvel brand on the barrel of the pen.
It passed quality control, despite the tool marks... It had at least one happy user and ended up after 60 years in the collection of a mad fountain pen lover.
For sale now, because it's a double. Recently I acquired an identical pen, without the tool marks, so this one may go, for a friendly price.

Cap top, blind cap, section and feeder: Ebonite (HR)
Clip: Gold plated brass.
Filling system: Button filler.
Nib: Steel - "Navy Super Quality 865". Iridium point. Line width F - stiff -no flex. See writing sample.
Condition: Used but in very nice state - some light user marks, notice the small square 'tool marks' next to the brand name on the barrel that are most probably factory tool marks. Completely restored and rebuilt by me. New silicone ink sac.
