Hey there guys! Newbie question. The farthest I've gone in FP maintenance is removing a nib/feed from the section to clean and realign it...

So, I got this Cross Townsend with a nib that's slightly bent to the right. After I re-aligned the feed, it can (kind of) write, but barely. I can't get the tines properly aligned, due to the bend. Is that something a newbie could fix at home? Haven't got any pen repair tools.

Maybe you should give it to pro. It won't cost you much and they will fix it for you. You can easily damaged nib even more that it is damaged now.

Nibs are not to be trifled with. Anything beyond a simple smoothing I send them to an expert.

Thanks for the advice! I'll do the right thing: try and find an expert :)

If you are located in the US then try Danny Fudge. He is very reasonable and pretty fast as well.

Actually I'm in Brazil. Might be sligthly more difficult to find a nibmeister... :(

You could try just flossing the nib and see if that gets it to write better. Use a piece of very thin brass shim or a piece of film negative. Something of that flexibility and thinness.

I've seen somewhere that movie DVD cases contain shims hidden in one of the 'security measures'...if I can find it I'll post the link.
